Mud flaps/rock guards for my new 'Stang

Hi there.
New to the forum. Anticipating my special ordered 2019 Mustang GT PPL2 to arrive first week of November. Been learning a lot by reading up 'til now.
One of the things I want to do to help protect it is to get rock guards/mud flaps. I'm having the dealer replace the MPSC2s with 295/30-19 MPS4Ss before delivery, so at least I'll have less pebble buck shot flying towards the paint from those OEM gumballs. But the tread width of the 295 MPS4S is the same as the OEM 305 MPSC2, so I still need something wide enough to cover that poke.

Since I'm not really crazy about the shape of any of the commercial flaps (not to mention the price), what I'd really like to do is make my own from ABS sheet stock so I can control how far they extend both horizontally and vertically. So if there is anyone in NJ (the closer to the center of the state the better) that has flaps (installed or not) that I can take a look at, and maybe even trace to use as an outline to locate mounting holes so I can try to make my own wider, taller, lower flaps, let me know if/when/where you want to meet so I can get the measurements in time to create my own custom flaps.

Failing that, the next choice is one of the commercial sets. If anyone has a set that they have decided they no longer want, I might be interested in purchasing them. From the comments I've seen here, I think I'm most interested in the ZL1 Addon Standard guards, but may be interested in others as well.

Looking forward to a lot of good ideas from the forum.

P.S.: Oh, yeah. Since I'm not going to track/autocross the car, I'm selling the OEM MPSC2s. If anyone is interested, let me know

I'd recommend against the ZL1 Addons. They rely on sticky tape to stay on. When I installed mine, I cleaned and prepped the car wheel wells before sticking on the rock guards. This side actually held. However, the tape detached itself from the rock guards themselves within a week. This tape was already affixed to the rock guards from the factory. So they failed to prep the surfaces correctly. I had to reinstall them myself with my own tape, which was a huge pain and waste of time.
I emailed ZL1 to complain about them, and never got a response.

The ZL1 standard, not premium, are the ones to buy if you go that route. They stick much better and look good.

Wouldn't it be easier and more cost effective to buy a set, use as a pattern and then sell if you want to roll your own?

I've had the ZL1 standard units on the front of my car for at least two years, and they're not going anywhere. In fact, they'd probably be a bitch to remove. About the only gripe I have about them is that they're not anything special in terms of material (i.e. you could make something as good), but they were cheap (versus me buying material and spending time figuring it out), readily available, and they're keeping my rear quarters reasonably scar free running a MPSS 275 front tire...

I started with ZL1 AO premium. They are fine from the rear, but the fronts didn't cut it for the width of the pp2. I even modified them by widening the mounting slot. I ended up buying RokBlokz for the front, and they are a big improvement. Better hardware, slightly wider, thicker material and better looking shape (opinion). I've had much less debris hitting right behind the door with the RokBlokz.

So you have Rokblokz in front and ZL1 in back? Can you post a full pic so i can decide?

Thanks. I considered these (someone else recommended them in one of the other threads), and they are the closest to what I want (width and length), but I wasn't sure they would be long or wide enough for the poke on the PPL2. I can get 12" x 24 " x 1/8 " textured ABS sheets for $7.25/sheet (https://www.parts-express.com/abs-textured-plastic-sheet-1-8-thick-x-12-x-24--265-948). I figured that should be long and wide enough, and I could use my Dremel tool to make nice round corners.
But the pictures posted by NIXPP2 make me now think they may be long enough, and they're less than $1 more per flap...

Not at all.
First choice is to make my own because it's pretty clear that the ZL1 Addons made for the Mustang aren't big enough for the PPL2 (NIXPP2 pretty much confirmed that with his post).
If I can get a trace from someone (basically only for the mounting hole locations) then I lay out only $29 for the sheet ABS, and I make them exactly as I want. If I buy the ZL1 Standard guards, it's an extra $60 (plus shipping) outlay, and I have no guarantee I'll be able to sell them. Even if I am able to sell them, it would be at a loss. Nobody is going to give me full price if they can get them direct from the manufacturer for the same price.

Thanks for the input, but by all accounts, the PPL2 is a whole different animal with the 305s poking out on all 4 corners. Even though I'm replacing the OEM 305s with less gummy 295s, the tread width is the same, so they'll be poking out just as much.

No issues. Good luck with it! If your time isnt worth anything, and you dont count mileage there and back, and dont consider returning them...you might be right
