Hello Mustang6g Community!

I am having an issue with my breaks. they squeal like crazy! not at high speeds.... just when slowing down or coming to a stop light, stop sign, etc. usually starts at around 30mph down to a complete stop. if I hit the breaks HARD, it doesn't squeak. just when I'm driving at a normal pace. its honestly so embarrassing. driving around a $45,000 sports car and it sounds like a 1997 junker pulling up  I have a 2015 PP GT with 9,000 miles on it. Which is why I'm quite concerned why they are squeaking when the car is brand new. I've taken it to my local ford dealer multiple times regarding this issue and they tell me every time that the breaks look fine. anyone else having this issue? any suggestions on how to help them not squeak?

thanks.

this issue generates a lot of threads. I have regular brakes, but you might investigate what sort of pads come with PP. I am guessing they are semi-metallic:

http://www.autoanything.com/brakes/the-best-brake-pads-ceramic-or-metallic.aspx
What are The Best Brake Pads: Ceramic or Semi-Metallic?

Semi-Metallic Brake Pads
cons:
Tend to be noisier than organic or ceramic pads
Produce more brake dust
Require careful and proper bedding-in for best performance

Ceramic Brake Pads
Cons:
Do not absorb heat as well as semi-metallic pads which can increase brake system temperatures
Good all-around braking characteristics but were never designed as heavy duty/racing brake pads

It really shouldn't come as a surprise that high performance pads like on the PP cars might make noise. The manual should have been clearer on this, it only says that occasional brake noise is normal.

Also I don't know pad material used in PP but in general, what is happening or can happen, so the dust from pads gets into places it shouldn't and the pads vibrate, not seated in to pistons and calipers .

cleaning/blowing out dust and adding some high temp brake grease can help a lot in to fix it in many cases .
Put it on back face of pads were they make contact with caliper .

Edkiefer, where can I get this high temp brake grease and how much does it cost? can I spray on car with wheel still on or do I need to take wheels off to apply?

The very least you would need to do these things .
1)remove wheel
2) remove/swing Caliper up like you are replacing pads (note good idea to push pistons back to a bit).
3) put some grease on the area that caliper hits backing pad of pads.
4) tighten up caliper and install wheel
5)Done

Thats good for pad backing and for slider/floating pins and where pads fit into clips I use Permatex products, but that just cause I have been using them so long and works well

Any de3cent grease for brake will work (note, not wheel bearing grease, brake grease ).
I generally clean off the stock grease from the pins when doing brake job and applying new high temp grease but if your vehicle is low on mileage probably just needs some on pad backing .

This is what I use on pins and clips (can also be used in pinch on pad backing ).It won't melt off and lasts long time .

The stock pads are crap, thats all. There's nothing wrong with them per se but they tend to be noisy despite being a street pad. Swap to a better pad and they'll be silent.

ceramics should be quieter, but given that previous posting, they aren't meant for high performance, heat tolerance.

your brakes may have not been broken in properly, and glazed slightly. You can either go to dealer, or a specialty brake shop to have them pull the pads and see if there is obvious issues. They may be able to re-condition the rotors and pads.

edit: just saw you said you took it to the dealership. Specialty brake shop might be better. Look for one with a good rating.

I had the squeal from day one. Didnt feel like messing with tsbs or anything so i swapped to dilled slotted rotors. Problem solved plus it looks great.

Excellent advice!! I was going to suggest same with regards to popping calipers off, cleaning and applying a good brake caliper grease.

The squealing can occur if the grease that was applied during initial assembly was too little (or none at all). It's not always due to brake pad compound or inferior pads. When the brakes are being applied to slow down, the pads, caliper pins and/or the pad retainers (if equipped) vibrate so fast that is what causes the high pitched squealing. If there is not enough (or no grease) to absorb the vibes, the owner will experience squealing.

Brake pad wear indicators:
Another type of squealing would be caused if the brake pad wear indicator has become loose, damaged or bent in too far and touches the rotor ever so slightly, this will cause squealing too. The wear indicators are usually found on just the pads that are usually mounted to the back side of the rotor. It's a metal clip attached to the pad and points to the rotor. As the pad wears, this clip eventually gets close enough to the rotor to make a noise to alert the owner of necessary brake pad replacement.

One more thing to check:
Make sure the brake splash shields are not damaged or bent - if they are bent slightly there could be a chance that the shield comes in contact with a rotor just enough to make a squeal or noise when in motion - but not enough that it would cause any brake functionality issues (or damages). The shields are located behind the brake rotor. Remove wheel. Check distance of shield in relation to rotor. Spin rotor and make sure there is no contact being made. If slight contact, just bend shield a little to prevent contact.

The above applies to ANY vehicle brake system, not just Brembos, Perf Pack, etc.

There's been a TSB for brake squeal on non PP GT and PP EcoBoost, nothing new.
