There are plenty of times when I would like to leave the car on but lock it. Best I can tell, the car won't do this with the fob. I haven't the following yet but I would guess that if you used the metal key in the fob to manually lock the door, I could accomplish my goal.

1) Can someone confirm if locking via the manual lock cylinder is possible
2) is there an aftermarket cover that would expose the lock cylinder like on the 2014? removing and replacing the plastic cover seems like a nightmare.

edit: essentially the back piece here (paint matched not pho-fiber)

I can too. You can hear the locking mechanism working usually. I always hit lock twice so it honks and I know for sure.

It sounds like you need a helper to test since you don't know for certain. Hit the lock once, then walk away and have your helper try to get in. Or throw your key 5+ feet away and try to get in yourself.

I hope inside is your house and not your car lol. I'd honestly just toss it in the front yard or something. Or walk 10 feet away, hit lock once, sit the key down, and then try to unlock.

You can definitely get out of the car and lock it via fob or IA/door handle touch sensors. Same with unlocking. The only annoying part is the stupid double honk 🤬. As far as I know, you can't lock the key in the car thanks to Ford's idiot-proofing.

I once accidentally locked my old Audi key in the trunk, so I bet its possible. I had the key buried in a range bag while I was out at a public outdoor range. When I went to open the trunk it popped open but once the bag was shoved into the trunk, the car couldn't detect it. Had to get my wife to come with the spare.

I always put my keys in my golf bag when I golf. If I forget and put the bag in the trunk with the keys, the trunk will not lock and the car honks to let me know that I did something stupid.

I'd count yourself lucky. If your battery is worn or there is enough interference (ie: ammo surrounding the key) the car won't be able to detect it. It's not a manufacturer specific problem, just radio waves.

Well I’m an idiot. The fob locks it 🙃 Sorry for wasting everyone’s time.

You can disable the double honk with forscan, its one of the first changes I made once getting it set up.

hmmmm.....curious minds....what if you leave the car running and go in your home with the fob. I've done this plenty of times when warming up the stang. Can someone drive off if the fob is in range? Or would it lock out when put into drive (if fob is not in the car)....or first for the manual?

Yeah......

If you start the car, get out, lock it, but someone walks up and swipes the handle, can they get in and drive away?

Lemme go try.
