I didn't think we were talking about a blown engine. The OP was talking about a CAI and a tune. Completely different. I had a CAI, 93 tune, and axle back exhaust on my 08 and they replaced my 2nd gear synchro. I think a motor with a supercharger wouldn't be covered under warranty if there were power tain issues but a CAI with a tune from a good tuner will be. I'm curious why a first model year would change anything though.

When you say blown, do you mean blown up or forced induction? Either way a good tuner and a CAI should blow this motor.

CAI doesn't do much for a coyote. Tune only usually brings in the same power numbers.

If Base GT - Wheels/Wider rear rubber > Exhaust > Tune > Springs

Exhaust!! And the MBRP Race aluminized is exactly what i have- not too loud; the flowmaster outlaw axleback on my 11GT was louder

I doubt it matters much if you have supercharger or not. If you are running any sort of aftermarket tune and something happens to go wrong with the engine that ford can say is tune related, I suspect you are pretty much hooped - even if it wasn't the aftermarket tune's fault.

That said, while there are some changes this year, the coyote is far from a first year engine and I don't think there is much risk in running a cai and tune from a reputable tuner. I will be doing so soon.

People are generally picking up 10ish whp using cai (with appropriate tune) over tune only. Not a crazy amount of whp, but combined with the nice noises, well worth it imo.

Steeda picked up 10whp over stock with their intake; this was with the restrictor in, so no tune was used.

lol sorry i didnt mean blown as in supercharged, i meant exploded/grenaded etc. i'm pretty sure it's known that ford wont deny warranty work on other components of the car that has nothing to do with what you modded. for example if you get a tune/cai on your engine, theyre not going to deny work on a faulty radio, etc.

that's great that they covered a bad syncro in your transmission, they could've easily blamed that on the extra HP your tune provides. i know that's pretty silly, but they can do that if they really wanted to, and make you fight for the coverage.

i may be overly paranoid, since i've gone this route in the past, when i went all out on my 2011 wrx with pretty much everything from the intake, intercooler, fuel injectors/pump, exhaust, etc. (mod part list and history here http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showpost.php?p=42998445&postcount=189)

i was lucky and nothing "blew up" and was solid for over 83k miles, but i've had friends with similar mods blow their engines up between 10k - 25k miles and subaru of course wouldn't cover the warranty work.

Ha. Gotcha. Yes, of course - a tune will not 'void' your entire warranty.

I would do exhaust first. Love that sound! If you have base GT I think new wheels and rubber are a must. Just did mine with 20" 255 in front and 305 in the rear. Night and day different grip.

Personally i would not waste money on cai/tune. Gains are so small for the price. I am definitely going supercharger. Best bang for the buck for sure

I dunno ~30whp for $775 seems like pretty good bang for the buck to me. Or you can pay $600-$1400 for exhaust and make next to no hp, but get a great sound. All depends on what you prefer.

It's definitely not bad gains. Have a buddy in town that did cai, tune and catback and picked up 42 whp same day. But for someone if they are considering doing SC then it kinda a waste since most don't work with them if any
it is more expensive for sure but I think worth it. Boosted coyotes are amazing

you can get a tuner kit SC and 'reuse' the tuner, but ya, not the cai. Though I think that would be pretty easy to sell to recoup some of the cost.

suspension, wheels and chassis BEFORE any drive train modifications. get that car handling and driving the best it can before you try and add any power.

suspension before exhaust on this car makes no sense imo.. the exhaust is way too quite and that added power doesnt require any suspension upgrades.
