misfire?

Hi everyone, looking for some help if possible.

My 2020 Bullitt has intermittently started to shake and vibrate pretty violently between 1700 and 3000 rpm under any type of acceleration. It's happening in all drive modes and exhaust modes and across all gears in this rev range.

If I change gear and get out of the 1700 and 3000 rpm range the car drives fine.

This will happen for a few minutes or until I come to a stop then the shake and vibration dissappears completely for another couple of hundred miles.

Is this an engine misfire or could it be something else?

Is the car modded with exhaust, CAI or a clutch? If you don’t have DTC reader, you can take the car to AutoZone and they will,
hook up a code reader for free and check for codes. If you do, write those codes down and look them up here, so we can see pic we can help you.

Nothing modded, everything is stock.

I'm UK based so unsure what our equivalent to autozone would be :frown:I'lI'll have a look at getting a code reader and failing that it'll be a trip to the dealer.

Hello to a fellow west coaster though I was kidnapped and taken East haha.
Any half decent independent garage will have code readers that they can plug in and tell you what's what. If I was over that way this week I'd offer to plug in my own reader.

Chris at Dynatune in East Kilbride is fairly close (and a busy man)
or Mike at https://www.american-muscle.co.uk/ but further away in kirkliston near edinburgh airport.

Hi Raptor, ah you have went to the dark side haha!

I'll try and see if Chris is available. Recently moved to EK (the bio needs updated) so he will be close by and can hopefully fit me in. I may pick up a cheap code reader anyway as it will be handy to have.

it's fugging windy as here too! What's all that about? As well if you're in EK already then he's your man. Tell him Allan gave him the shout out ha. Another mustang to his herd, we're ganging up on him :crackup:

YOu can get forscan for Windows program for free just to read codes etc, buy a licence to do more with it. Buy a cable adaptor that suits it and you're good to go

A check engine light would come on if there was a miss fire. Code reader will even tell you the cylinder number. We diagnosed my neighbors 2020 when he got the shakes and check engine light for #3 cylinder miss. Had a burnt connector at #3 fuel injector.

You also don’t need a fancy scanner to get the DTC’s. Here ya go:

If you have a 2015-2020 with the ANALOG gauge cluster, you should be able to enter the ā€œEngineer Test Modeā€.

In my case I replaced all spark plugs, coils and injectors and misfires were resolved.

Honestly, I kind of crapshooted it been wanting to replace the parts anyway since I had 117K miles.

Plugs had 20K miles, but they may have broken down.

This happened on my other (not on the mustang)
My car went out of timing randomly. Maybe you need to reset your timing chain? It causes misfires and shakes. (A shop would need to do this u less you know how to yourself)

I bought a cheapo code reader from amazon and have P0353 fault code.

Would anyone be able to explain this or is it a workshop job?

That is the the number 3 coil pack. Check/examine the wiring for the coil and or replace. You can also move the coil to another cylinder to see if the misfire follows is.

Actually tried this today and got into it ok but dtc codes showed zero yet I still have fault code. Digital Speedo was cool
