Another update:

My guess was right, the exhaust valve spring broke. The plus to that is that the valve didn't fully drop, it still partially retracted. The downside is that there isn't a procedure in the service manual for replacing the spring, so they are waiting on Ford for next steps.

I also sent an email to the Service Director and the Assistant Sales Manager I dealt with to let them know about the case I opened and to thank them for their help.

Not crazy about the fact that I’m seeing so many engine issues (and other miscellaneous issues) on this board as I am still waiting to pick mine up.

Trying to remind myself to take it all with a grain of salt and that it makes sense that people would be more likely to share this info on a mustang message board.

The mental checklist of stuff to look at when I finally am able to even test drive my car is getting long, though.
Yeah, it's important to remember that you tend to see the complaints a lot more than the cars that are operating correctly. And Ford does make quite a few of these, so from a percentage perspective it's probably not too bad.

I just had the same issue happen.

They ended up replacing spring and it's back to normal now. Mine didn't drop either so it wasn't catastrophic. Could of been so much worse! Good luck to you. Hope you get it back soon.

That's very true unless a particular problem keeps showing its head on numerous cars. AC issue and engine rattles/ticks seem to be pretty common.

Update Time!

I heard from both my service writer (*gasp* proactively, I didn't have to call) and the Ford CSM (well, her backup, she's out sick today). They called within an hour or so of each other.

From the dealer:
It sounds like they are ready to button it back up, they are just waiting on the Valve Cover gasket. It's on backorder until the 19th. If they can get it right away after that, maybe I'll have the car for the weekend. *checking the weather* :censored: The weather is great until Saturday.

From Ford:
Obviously not eligible for a buyback, but she did mention that they will keep an eye on the backorder & get that escalated if it drags on. They will follow up on Monday.

So ... progress has been made. :)

Got the call this morning. I have the car back. I'm almost to 100 miles now (99.6 actually) :D

I did have one fun thing on the way home. :) I realized on the way out to dinner that I really hadn't gotten on it and stayed on it much. On the way home I had my opportunity. I was getting on the highway and finally got it above 4-5 grand. What a dramatic difference. Totally different car.

I also think it got a Jag that was behind me all turned on. I didn't even know he was back there until he was right on my ass. I guess he thought I was going to stay on it longer than I did, but I didn't really want a ticket. ;) He was an idiot too though, I saw him in traffic ahead. There was a lot of stupid out tonight.

I'll probably add my parts list to this thread. I just glanced at it at the dealer. It looked long. :D

I tried. ;) Sugar vs Vinegar & all. I only cracked the facade twice, once when getting the case created with Ford (that actually amused him more than anything else - it was like a switch flipped, I sternly said the right words, it was created) and once with my Service Advisor to remind them that they had had the car for most of the time since it was delivered. Otherwise I tried to smile whenever talking to them.

Looks like I need to check my oil before I drive it again though, since they only listed 8 qts.

Do they have to drain/change the oil for this type of problem? I'm fairly sure that mine was not drained. I have a quick-drain plug and I'm thinking they don't have the right type of fitting to drain it. And it didn't look like there were any wrench marks on the plug from them removing it.

They did on mine because it was full of fuel ... to the point the oil level was high.

Good thing I checked the oil this morning. Sure enough, 2 quarts low. Called the Service Advisor just to verify what they put in, and he was rather surprised the tech didn't check it.

& boy is that dipstick in a crappy location.

Happy that you got your car back. Now beat the hell out of it to make sure it's broken in right.
Tried! :) We went down to Waxahachie for Scarborough Faire today. A nice jaunt. Most of you would have cringed at the parking in a damp field part. :D

I have found that driving an Orange Mustang really attracts stupid. I had an Escalade with a loud exhaust trying to race me or something in traffic.

Hmm, I'm used to this kind of stuff coming from a Mercedes.
