Another update:
My guess was right, the exhaust valve spring broke. The plus to that is that the valve didn't fully drop, it still partially retracted. The downside is that there isn't a procedure in the service manual for replacing the spring, so they are waiting on Ford for next steps.
I also sent an email to the Service Director and the Assistant Sales Manager I dealt with to let them know about the case I opened and to thank them for their help.
