I may be forced to sell my car :headbonk: Imagine the horror

Do dealers buy cars outright ?

FWIW, I owe $17k and KBB says: Trade in = roughly $29k. Private Party = $32k

Yes dealers buy them outright, but see if you can't get more doing a private party sale yourself first then make sure you do a few offers from dealerships/CarMax to get the most.

Doesn’t CarMax supposedly buy cars?

Dammit Nomadic, you make me disagree with you all the time! My mom got a more than fair offer from CarMax (2k above KBB) for her 2012 Ford Escape with shit paint quality on the roof/hood but very low miles and optioned up. This was back in December so it could have been them knowing they could easily flip it in some of the more wintery states, but still a great offer and absolutely painless compared to dealing with any private buyers.

Their offers used to be pretty good.

Echo Park did the same thing. My UPS guy was selling his wife's Audi because it was a POS. The dealer only offered him $2500 on trade and he took it over to Echo Park and they gave him like $6500 for it. He sold it right there.

Get quotes from a dealer or two and CarMax.

Then try to sell privately for more for as long as you can stomach the trouble.

You'll definitely get less than selling on your own but you'll also save time and frustration.

Exactly I can't be the only one who thinks selling any car privately is a pain. And couple that with a car with a loan on it, not fun to deal with that. I would at the very least check a few dealers and get a CarMax quote just to see a ball park of what you could expect in the area. You might be surprised.

Not knowing mileage or condition I'll guess they will offer you $25k to buy it.

The biggest problem I’ve encountered selling a high performance car privately, is you get every snot nosed kid that has no intention or ability to buy wanting to come over for a joy ride.
