Simple question. Has anyone run Pilot Sport Cup 2 on the rear with Pilot Sport 4S on the front? The logic being something a bit stickier in the back for grip while still handling well coupled with a capable tire on the front that will last a bit longer and is slightly more cost effective.

I'm not expecting to hook from a dig, but I'm looking for something with a bit more grip than the PS4S and I like the twisties too much to commit to drag radials.

My car is not daily driven and goes out on nice days, so I'm not worried about wet performance.

One other thing I like about this combo is the available sizes for my staggered setup. 305/35/19 and 285/35/19. Neither model has BOTH of those sizes.

So the goal is two fold handling and grip, but mostly handling for spirited street driving. However, I'm hoping that the stickier compound on the PSC2s will allow me to roll on the throttle a little harder for the occasional stop light dig and/or drops from 40 etc.

And fyi I'm looking at springs and other suspension components as well to help with grip while not sacrificing too much handling or ride quality. But that's a whole other topic, so for now I'm just curious if anyone has paired the PSC2 and PS4S...

You said you like the twisties so I'd be concerned about disrupting the balance between understeer and oversteer if you push hard in the corners? An autocross event should confirm if there are any issues.

Will the PSC2's be that much better in a straight line to be worth it?

Would a Nitto/MT drag radial be that much worse in the turns to not be worth it?

Supercharged guys complain about spinning the PSC2's in third (M6) so I don't think they will solve your problem.

If you change your shocks/struts and springs to be better in a straight line it's going to be worse in the curves, and vice versa.

You both make valid points, and those are things I'm already thinking of as well. I defintely favor handling performance over straight line grip though. If only I had endless money to test different tire combos, or build two different cars 😂

Assuming you’re staggered on 19x10/11” wheels?

Try the Yokohama A052 in 275/35 and 295/35.

Trust me, even tho the width numbers are smaller than you can get in some other tires, the grip is unbelievable.

I have the Nitto G2. I'm at about 7+ wheel HP but I also have the steeda stop the hop kit and i dont blow the tires off with traction control on. I had the Pilot Sport 4S which was a stickier tire. I would upgrade your suspension like you said it really helps keep the tires to the ground

I'm starting to discover that there's a contingent of loyal fans of this tire. I'll keep looking. Thanks!

The stop the hop kit is something on my list as well. What kind of springs are you running?

Ford performance. I’m not too sure if it’s the track handling pack or the street handling pack though next time I’m under there. I need to check that.

I have no personal experience other than recently buying and currently running PS 4S's. From my research which consisted of dozens of forums and YouTube videos, there is little to no difference between the Cup2 and the 4S (I went specifically with the STAR marked ones as they have a compound similar to the Cup2) for our cars. Some even said that the PS 4S* outperformed the Cup2 on the track. 🤔. So I decided on the 4S's as my "handling/daily" set up but the straight line grip is nowhere near the MT ET Street S/S I have on the other wheels.

That's been my experience. I've been on the PS4Ss for a year and a half. I'm pleased with the handling characteristics, and it's a good daily tire for sure. Maybe I should address the suspension before going off and trying a bunch of tires heh. And maybe I just need to stop looking for a magical unicorn tire that does it all 😂

do not mix tires. i'd be very concerned about compounds heat cycling at different rates and making things even more unpredictable.
