I've had both nitto and MT. The Nittos are a better overall daily tire. If you're willing to swap, just go with the MT. On a 17 inch rim you have many options available for you.

Yeah if I don't get a official answer for the 275/40/19 nitto 555r2. Imma just grab 17 inch wheels and grab MT. Safer cause I know MT will grip for sure.

I've used within the past 18 months on the same car (2020 GT PP1 A10):
Michelin PSS (305/35/19)
Michelin PS4S (325/30/19)
Nitto 555R2 (305/35/19)
Toyo R888R (325/30/19)

The Michelin PSS was used when the car was boltons + E85 at around 460 whp.
All the others have been used with the car supercharged making 680 - 770 whp depending on 93 or E85.

The Nitto 555R2 will grip quite a bit better than the Michelin PS4S and PSS in a straight line but cornering is not great compared to the Michelins.
I'll be surprised if you have any issues with the Nitto 555R2 nailing it from 30+ with under 500whp.

The Toyo R888R is comparable to the Nitto 555R2 - just a hair below in straight line traction - but cornering is well above the the Nitto 555R2 which is why I made the switch from the 555R2 to the R888R

Since you don't really care much about cornering just go straight for the ET Street SS or R - both of those will give more straight line grip than any of the tires I mentioned from my research otherwise the Nitto 555R2 is your best bet.
Factor in cost and tread life

My ranking (highest to lowest):
Straight line grip - ET Street R, ET Street SS, Nitto 555R2/Toyo R888R, Michelin PS4S, Michelin PSS
Cornering grip - Toyo R888R, Michelin PS4S, Michelin PSS, Nitto 555R2, ET Street SS, ET Street R

Just a data point. I don't know if Mickey Thompson cleaned up their manufacturing problems but there was a time when there was a LOT of complaints about bad compounds and posted photos of all sorts of weird defects. Wasn't everyone, but enough for people to take notice.

My 275/40/19 555Rll’s stick like a Jolly Rancher to a fat kids face. They replaced my 305/45/17 M/T Street SS’s. At my power level, I had doubts they would even come close to the SS’s. Well, even on an OEM 8.5” wheel, they literally perform identical. Even with a hard throttle smash in 2nd gear at 35mph, they grip it all. They ride silent and roll beautiful. I run them at 27psi cold for street. I run the SS’s just for the drag strip now because they have hardly any tread remaining and are wider.

Literally both are almost the same tire anyway. Same compound. Just different tread style/pattern. Although you’ll get a tad more life out of the Nitto.

You will love the 275/40/19 555Rll’s and they will impress you every day.

Here’s my sleeper look with the 555Rll’s.

I can't do that. if Nitto 555r2 will not make a difference then i will have to go with MT street R with race starts or vms wheels. Was hoping i can stick with stock pp1 wheels with Nitto 555r2. i need that grip for mexico nights :p
I would stay away from Nittos. Pretty crappy tire IMO. They have a nice profile. But that's about it.

For a street drag radial, it’s just as good as a Mickey. I actually rate it a tad better.

As for a Mickey Street R, that’s on another level.

Are you auto or mt82? the only issue i have for the ps4s is when the 10r80 shift from 2nd to 3rd. WOT during 2nd at 40 roll grip just fine.

6R80. Trust me. Run then at 26-27psi cold and you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

He was also going too fast for the conditions. Maybe had less than 25% tread remaining as well. Can’t say a tire sucks based on one blokes mistakes driving in shitty conditions. :)
Ya when my 4s were on the last 1/3 of the tread they were basically slicks. They also needed 80+ degrees to get gummy. I think they use a harder compound on the last 1/3 of the tread.

The wet/snow setting came in handy in the rain.

Currently I'm running 305/35r19 nitto555g2 and can't hook well in first...

Sounds like the nitto r2 will be worth a shot. . Or should I just go for mickey thompson?

How's the lifetime on either of those?

I have 305 35 19 Nitto 555R2 and my son has the Michelin in 275 on the rear. The Nittos hook much better in dry weather, but not that great when wet. Overall a solid tire.
