I was just goofing around reading about the MBRP Street for the S550 and found a quote from the MBRP guy saying they're getting 28-29 rwhp increase on a bone stock S550 GT "at relatively high altitudes."

I have this exhaust, but I really haven't done any testing previous to the installation to see what kind of power increase I had, and I can't say whether I do or don't feel any change because I figured it would just be placebo effect anyway. I really hadn't even figured it was any more than 10 but regardless of what kind of dyno they used, an increase is an increase.

Is that right? 28-29? Anyone know? I must say it would be cooler to think of having 420rwhp instead of 380-390, or whatever the car dyno's on average.

No way. Mufflers might be worth about 5-6 whp in the higher rpms on an otherwise stock car. My 1 7/8" long tubes and catless X likely didn't even gain me 30 whp (probably 20-25 whp).

I have the MBRP street catback exhaust on mine. There is no way in H*LL their system gives you that much. That guy is hittin' the pipe.

5-10 or as much as 30 you have little chance of noticing it besides butt dyno/placebo. Like a CAI, claims 20-30, seemingly because you can't quantify it without an expensive dyno test, or series of dyno pulls, so its tough to dispute with a manufacturer. I 100% believe in the tried and true intake and exhaust for performance, this car isn't any different in that regard. But the numbers its likely to return you won't have a solid appreciation of it because it's too low to have a real drivers seat impression. Makes for great marketing though.

I doubt those claims are accurate - I have the MBRP Race set-up. I put my car on the dyno this past April and put down 419 to the wheels - the car has a Lund tune for E-85 w/a Steeda CAI.

You might get 5hp out of that thing if you're lucky. The stock exhaust is restrictive but you'd have to change out several more things before it made a difference. 30rwhp from a catback is nuts.

If there was a catback system that made 25-30 horsepower they would be on back-order all day, every day! Hell that's the same increase you get with a set of long tubes...

I saw a thread where one guy did a few dyno pulls, swapped out the catback for either the MBRP or some other brand, did a few more pulls, and found that the aftermarket catback was worth about 10 hp. That was on a different forum. But trying to convince anyone of anything here other than telling people that "it does nothing" or "you'll never notice it" or "the stock one is better" is like arguing with a wall. So if you get an exhaust, do it for the sound. Anything outside of that, just consider it a bonus.

Since putting on my catback I definitely notice my TC kicking on more in the power band so I'd say it has to add at least 5 hp.. 30 sounds like a joke but obviously something has to be making a difference. Could just be the weight loss combined with a slight gain but I'm happy with whatever it did
