I picked up a used mbrp street catback and no drone. Honestly it is quieter than I expected. Much tamer than my friend magnaflow system.

I installed the mbrp street this weekend along with the k&n air intake system and I have minimal "drone" at very low rpms ONLY. I did a 300 mile journey back to NC going 70/80 and the cabin was super quiet. I DID notice that when I got home the sound had changed from the initial higher pitched loud sound to a much deeper ballsy guttural tone. I guess that's what people say about the MBRP breaking in and letting it's true sound come out. I put around 400 miles on it this weekend after installing the intake 1 day and the catback the next day. I averaged 29mpg coming home on cruise control.

I worried about the tips flying off but we torqued them down pretty good so they were fine lol. I would adjust the TIPs a bit because I heard the more flush the tips are with the rear valence (how deep the inner pipe is inside the tip) might affect the "drone."

Coming from an exhaust on my 3.5l HO Dodge Charger I do notice that any aftermarket exhaust will drone T some point some rpm but as I do more
Short slow trips than long hard trips I like hearing my exhaust otw to work and watching ppl go wtf... That things a beast lol.
Good point, though I would be afraid of pulling the tips out any further. They're out far enough that you can see the MBRP logo from the top.

I would check that all the connections are tight. Tons of people running the Street version and saying no drone.

Mine is an auto but I've never had an issue.
Yeah, and that's why I went with MBRP. I read that every post in that huge thread on the MBRP Street and all these people were saying zero drone. The only time I heard anyone mention drone was in the installation video from CJPonyParts. The guy (don't know his name) in all those videos says "There's a hint of a drone...".

I think I'll take the car to a muffler shop and have them fiddle with the connections. I tightened everything down, but I did it all on ramps. It would be better if I could have someone put it up on a lift.

And, now that I think about it...it seems like one of the mufflers is pushed in slightly more than the other. I wonder if having slightly different tube length could cause drone.

Okay so here's a question...is there somewhere I can get j-pipes made in case the drone doesn't go away? I called a few shops here in Atlanta but half didn't know what I was talking about, the other had no means of bending pipe.

Hit up solo performance if you want J pipes. Not sure how that would work unless you went with their axle back set up. Someone also used magnaflow mufflers to eliminate rasp but not sure about drone. I think you're one of the few with drone at all.

I've had the MBRP street catback exhaust for almost a year now and there has always been a very slight drone at around 2,000 RPMs. Mine isn't bad enough that it bothers me though.

Hmmm...

So I just happened upon another thread where someone was talking about "j pipes" being added to their system. I'm not familiar with this term, but I assume it's a form of resonance chamber?

I'd be very grateful if someone could provide me with a link that pertains to the 2015+ mustangs and "j pipes". I imagine it needs to be a specific length and size (I/D) to work, so knowing what to build for mine would be awesome.

A competent exhaust shop could make them. Try googling hemholtz resonators for more information and pictures. If we remember correctly, there was a good writeup about them on a 350z forum somewhere.

Our resonated X's can be used to help combat drone and rasp, but we cant guarantee they will prevent it 100%.

So I just got done installing the MBRP Street cat-back system on my 2016 GT. I've got the CS package with stock gearing. It's a manual.

I've only put about 50 miles on the car since I installed the exhaust, but it seems I have some drone at ~70mph in 6th gear, which happens to be ~1900RPM.

I should mention that I came from a Subaru STi that had unequal length headers. On top of the UEL headers, mine also had an SPT cat-back exhaust system which is (supposedly) one of the most bass-y exhaust systems available for the car.

The STi made a LOT of noise -- most of it humming/rumbling -- on the highway. My 'Stang with the MBRP is definitely quieter, by a long shot, but the sound it's making is not entirely pleasant. It's almost like I can "feel" the sound inside my head.

I'm wondering how many people have any discernible drone, and if any change was noted over time (better/worse)? Also, is it possible that I have a dud or maybe I booged something up during installation?
I made a thread about this. Worst sounding exhaust ever. But no drone. I cut the crappy MBRP mufflers and added Magnaflows and it is awesome.

My MBRP Street doesn't drone at any RPM at any speed. 3.55 gears and a tune.

I came from a '15 STi with intake, downpipe, and catback so I know about the volume lol. This is way quieter with no drone at all.

It is however raspy at WOT. No denying that one.
Pretty much this. Not a big fan of the raspyness.

The exhaust is very quiet especially on the highway as long as your not on it obviously, stop light to stop light you can't help but hear it. But as soon as the RPM's mellow out you shouldn't hear much until you hit much higher RPM's. I'm sure you already looked into Exhaust with X-Pipes that will have none stop drone from what I hear.

Thanks for the suggestions. I actually did a lot of reading on the j-pipes once I found a place to start looking. That's probably what I'll end up doing.

As for the MBRP exhaust, the rasp is pretty crazy, but it's funny that it seems to depend less on RPM and more on throttle percentage. Any time you lay into the throttle by more than 30-40%, you get that popping/rasp. Something interesting I noticed, however...

It seems that the rasp is far worse inside the car than outside the car. The exhaust doesn't sound nearly that raspy outside the car. I'm no physics genius, but I think it has to do with the higher tones bouncing back more easily.

Outside the car it has a very aggressive tone that doesn't actually sound all that bad. I'd really like to figure a way to cancel out the trumpet though. I wonder if you could somehow eliminate the rasp with a much smaller j-pipe, since it's a much higher frequency?

Lots of people don't seem to share your opinion. Every time I take my car on a cruise or AutoX someone comes up out of the blue and tells me how awesome my car sounds. I've had the exhaust just about a year now and the same thing has happened at least 10 times.

I agree with Doctor Fishtail; I had the MBRP Street and it sounded like crap at WOT. Plus the setup looks like pretty bad from under the car; the mufflers are to big and sit way to low.

To each his own. It is all about what you the owner wants and likes. I bought it and and the first time I went WOT I was rolling up my tinted windows with embarrassment. I have many many different exhaust setups over the years and this one gets the trophy for being the worst. IMO. Thus this is why I hacked off those cheap mufflers and went with Magnaflow. So I technically still have the MBRP cat back with Magnaflow mufflers.

Yeah, I get praised all the time with how it sounds. Usually this is because I'm not at WOT while pulling up to a stop for someone to be able to tell me they like the exhaust sound. It sounds awesome if you take it easy, wish it were that way all the time.
