It's not really about Jimmy's bumper, it's about taking space by the f****g hitch that takes 15 seconds to remove. It's like people leaving shopping carts in the grocery store parking lots because they're too lazy to move it 15 yards back.

And if hit that cart that's sitting there, it's your own damn fault. (I can see a case made if wind blows it into your car). But the only wind here is the windbag that ran into the hitch. And if you don't believe me, go plow your ass into any hitch in any parking lot anywhere and call the cops and see whose fault it is. Not the hitch owners for damn sure. Ownership. Standing up for your actions. None of you pansy asses who think it's the truck owners fault would last 2 minutes working for me.

I've never ran into one, but I've banged my shin on plenty. Mine and other peoples. And EVERY SINGLE TIME, it's my fault. Not theirs.

What's really sad is no one who thinks it's the hitch owners fault will ever feel otherwise.

Jimmy it's ok to be pissed at yourself for doing it. Hell, I've been pissed at hell for mistakes I made. It's definitely not ok to blame him, man. It's your own fault. As bad as it sucks, suck it up and admit it.

So is it actually dinged or was it a lucky park?

Tiny little dent, just the passenger side of the bottom of the license plate. You can't see it; you can only notice it if you rub your finger along the bumper. No big deal at all; I'm sure I have worse dings on the sides from people opening doors into me that I haven't even noticed.

The whole thing isn't a big deal at all, it was just me venting last night about people not using proper parallel-parking courtesies. And also me really wishing that there was a front camera in addition to the backup camera because that would make parking MUCH easier.

I lived in and around NYC for 24 years, born and raised and I have never heard of these parking rules before. In fact no one I know living in NYC has ever heard of them either.

You had some very good points, but there is no need to turn this into a political debate.

I wouldn't live in that cesspool of a city. If I did, I wouldn't hit someone's trailer hitch then cry about it.

I have a hitch on my vehicle ~ 9 months out of the year, tho I doubt it sticks out 8 inchs (more like 5?). I just got rearended driving to work today and had the hitch been on the guy's radiator would probably still be hanging off it. In any event, I agree with most posters - you hit someone, it's your fault.

After living in NYC for 10 years, I give Jimmy and whomever credit for having the ability to shrug off dents, dings and scratches. Parking is a free for all. I absolutely know what Jimmy is talking about regarding parking courtesies, but it's like Thunderdome there. I've seen people park with bumpers touching, countless sideview mirrors destroyed, etc. People *should* follow those courtesies, but, it is NYC after all.

My wife and I were once sitting in my parked beater leaving about 1 3/4 car lengths in front of me, and some guy tried to parallel park and ended up hitting me hard enough for me to spill my coke. When I got out to ask him if it was his first time parallel parking he got all bent out of shape at me for even saying anything, and threatened to kick both mine and my wifes ass. It was amazing.

Even though I had a beater, I still garaged it near my apt. It was two blocks away but I always knew I had a place to park when I got home.
