Hey all!

Trying to install Diode Dynamics LED map lights on my 2019 PP1 GT and the driver side doesn’t turn on unless I depress the button.

Unlocking and opening the door doesn’t illuminate it.

Passenger side works with the button and with door opening/unlocking, just the driver doesn’t.

Any ideas?

Checked passenger side interior fuse panel, slot #1 is empty and I didn’t see any remarks in the owners manual about another fuse location.

Thanks!

*Edit - OEM incandescent is swapped back in and exhibits the same issue.

I'll go out on a limb and guess you're working on the car during the day.

Not really sure what you mean by this, yes it’s daylight on my side of the planet right now, but I can definitely see what is and isn’t illuminating.

Especially when I depress the button and watch it illuminate, then hop in after pressing unlock and seeing it off.

Uh-huh.

Wait until it's dark outside, then check again.

Uh-uh, this has to be a trolling.

You understand it is POSSIBLE to see lights illuminated in the day light?

I literally see it illuminated when I press the button, just not on the door opening. But, I see the passenger side illuminated (in the daylight) when the door is opened.

I checked it now that it’s getting dark, just for you, shockingly, same issue.

Have you tried flipping the bulb in the socket to see if it fixes it? Also, try emailing Diode Dynamics as it may just be defective.

I appreciate the suggestion! I did try that and checked the contacts on the DD bulb to no avail, unfortunately.

I’ve swapped the OEM incandescent back in and experiencing the same issues, driver side map light only illuminates on the button, passenger side illuminates on door opening/unlock and the button.

I did change polarity around on the DD bulbs, that’s a good thought, but OEM incandescent on the driver side exhibits the same, odd, issue.

This thread might help. A Google search turned up several similar topics but this seemed most relevant.

I appreciate you sharing that! I stumbled across it yesterday when I had the overhead console down and fiddled around with the wires to verify nothing was pinched or exposed.

The overhead console has been put back in place and I’m very hesitant to try my luck again removing it. On the ‘18+ cars it seems most people break the tabs when removing it off the headliner.

I originally followed the M6G and CJPP videos of going through the lense, until the light socket got pushed into the console, then I had no choice but to remove it off the headliner.

I haven't been in my overhead- it's a convertible and looks like a huge pita - so this is speculation but I've worked on my own cars wiring for years and this is what I would expect.
Since both sides come on with either door opening there's very likely a common circuit connected to a couple of spdt (or whatever ford's engineers conceived) switches. I understand your reluctance to pulling the overhead again but I think your only real chance to fix this is to get into it with a dvom and start checking for voltage and where you lose it.

This may help. Best I can do for you without being in the overhead hands on.
Edit; looking at the schematic I can only think of 4 things that fit your symptoms. 1, a misaligned wiring trace. I think they use thin metal bars as traces but I could be wrong there. 2, a broken/ disconnected wire. 3, a bad switch. And 4, a bad bulb - new doesn't always mean good.

This definitely helps, thank you so much for the schematic! I put the OEM incandescent back in it exhibited the same issue, so I’ll rule out the bulb.

I’ll definitely try and pull the overhead again and check over the wires and switch again, I definitely could’ve overlooked something yesterday.
