Agreed here as well. Whether old or new, whatever it is needs to at least be able to stand on its own merits. The new does have to demonstrate that is in fact better, and not just "newer". About here - defining "better" - is where personal preferences start sneaking in.

Norm
Unless someone's personal preference is an auto, then they're just wrong. That's the vibe from the bulk of the manual posters on here.

Newbee here............. what is the difference between an auttomatik and a maneul?

I tried the "search" function, but found nothing under "Auttomatik" or "Maneul".

You need a smarter spellcheck app . . . or skinnier fingers.

meh... get both.
That's what I did. A manual Camaro and an automatic Mustang.

We all know semi-automatic is faster than bolt action rifles. Many of us drive manual because they're fun, have more control in torque and be more reserved drivers -- not wanting to be reckless drivers with fast automatic.
That's not necessarily true. Just as in cars, it depends upon who is behind the trigger/wheel.

Interesting analogy.

Semi-auto is faster than lever-action as well. But if you grew up watching TV westerns, even a good semi-auto doesn't have the . . . dare I call it "soul" - of a smooth running levergun.

Norm
Again, not necessarily true. Assuming you have to hit a target, I can run my lever action rifle faster than 99% of people can run a semi-auto.

The title of the thread refers to a video attached to the OP. No one is calling the drivers of manual transmission losers.

Unless they are on a drag strip.
I may have lost to the A10, but I did out 60’ him. And yes, both cars were on dr’s. It’s not always a blowout. I was actually a bumper ahead at the 1/8.

I don't know what your shift points are, but I'm still in 2nd at 60, so only one shift. For a quarter mile run I'll have to shift to fourth at the end, so three shifts vs one shift could explain the difference you see.

Probably true. But it'd take more practice than I'd ever be able to devote to it to run a lever and re-establish my hold to get down anywhere near the cycle time of a Mini-14. I'm kind of late to this.

You might be surprised. I didn't start until I was almost 50 and I can run 10 rounds through a lever action in about 3-4 seconds depending upon how many different targets I have to hit.

That’s 60 feet, not 60 mph. I hope you’re not shifting before the 60’ mark.

I can hit the trap in 3rd gear, so no need for the extra shift.

At 73 and missing most of 2020 dues to COVID restrictions, I'd be flat-out shocked if I ever made that happen.

Well I am boosted with a 2015 pp 3.73 gears M6. The car is anything but slow but I am not racing. The thing about the manual is you can run out the gears and the heavenly sound emits even know you not breaking the law. The auto with loud exhaust kind of sounds like a blatt when at light throttle when it changes gears. Even girls like the stick better. LOL

It's certainly not in the same league as the PDK for cost... over $20k to replace and they don't repair them. That's why I sold my Porsche. The A10 is not quite in the same class, but the peace of mind is far greater.
A Porsche GT3/GT3RS is one of my dream cars, which I why I mentioned the PDK. I'm sometimes searching for 2018 and newer online, but lately those prices have been stupid crazy. So it gives me a reality kick to the face. lol
Which Porsche car did you have? Any photos?
