Ok, the dealership checked it out. They acknowledged the "thud/bump" and have documented it but everything checked out fine. Perhaps I will look into one of those braces if it bothers me that much. Perhaps as time goes on Ford will have a recall or a fix or at least an official statement. I can deal with the thud. I just wanted to make sure its structurally sound and not going to grenade on me one day while banging gears at 7k!

This happens on mine as well. It doesn't really concern me much though as durability is concerned. I think the others that mention driveshaft slack are probably dead on. I was thinking the rear diff originally, but it does sound a little closer than that. I will have to give that bushing a try.

Anyways, for what its worth...mine seems to be getting less.....maybe...just maybe. I am over 500 miles now. I will keep monitoring it.

Mine makes a thudding noise when shifting into 1st and 2nd and sometimes 3rd, and I hear/feel a much lighter thud when letting the clutch out, but only under easy driving conditions. When I'm accelerating briskly, all of the noises go away. The thud while shifting is the synchros. I figured it would go away in warmer weather, and as it broke in more. My theory about the light thud sound/feel when letting the clutch out is due to stiff clutch damping springs on the clutch plate itself, and not driveline slack (can also explain away some of the bucking while shifting that others including myself have experienced).

I'm honestly not worried about any of it at all. I have not yet had a missed shift, or hard to hit gear, or any other nastiness yet, just what I would consider normal manual transmission noises. I've never driven a manual transmission that didn't make its fair share of synchro and clutch noise. They are after all, a box full of gears rotating at high speed.

Paul, I think you've hit it on the head.

I have an EB w/PP and noticed this same sound during my first long-ish drive yesterday.

I have noticed that the sounds are lessening as I get more miles and practice. It has been just a few weeks and I already seek the clutch and shifter when I get into other cars. Pressing the dead pedal isn't as rewarding.
