I haven't had one peep out of the brakes, but yeah Ford could have done a little better with the manual trans. I have heard about a couple of failures. One was suspicious circumstances when the car came back from a dealer with a problem (plastered in every forum I think) and another I saw on YouTube. Don't know what happened with the latter. That may fall within the realm of typical failure percentages. My car has always made certain sounds. If those change then I will get concerned.

I think it's completely unacceptable to pay over 30k for a new car and have the transmission thud and clunk like it does. Ford needs to step up and fix this rather deem it "normal". I've owned several Ford products but this will be my last if Ford does not fix this.

Not to mention my GT PP front brembos squeal like a pig. I'm taking the car in for both issues and it only has 600 miles.:tsk:.
I am a mustang enthusiast, have owned several and would go as far as say loyal to Ford products. However, I am very disappointed with these issues on a new car. Toyota makes excellent products that I have owned and would not hestate to go back to. Sadly, if Ford does not take care of me. I will never be back.
You're going to go back to a Toyota because of squealing brakes and a transmission that makes noises you don't like? As far as Toyota making excellent product, maybe - they have also had some pretty significant recalls over the past couple of years - including recalling around 1.7 million cars due to brake issues....

That aside, what do they currently offer that could even come close to being considered a mustang alternative?

Yes, I wish the transmission didn't thud, but it works fine. I'm not going to get overly dramatic about it.

fwiw, I have not heard one peep out of my brakes in 6,000 miles. I'm sure you will get fixed up. Though, it is not uncommon for performance brakes to make some noises.

When is Toyota going to make a $35k 435hp RWD 2+2? As soon as they do, I'll be at the dealer for a test drive. I'm going to judge the hell out of the trans, too, so it better be perfect.

I wish I didn't have the thud either, but I'm now pushing 700rwhp through the stock box with just a new clutch. I can deal with the thud.

Yeah nothing is perfect in the world, I get that but when I paid 30k for a Tacoma, all I had to do was enjoy it. I expect the same enjoyment from a Ford product. Not to throw money at shifters and bushings to get it to run the way most people expect. You wish you didn't have the thud bit you're ok with it. That's good for you, glad your happy.

I just have different expectations out of a new vehicle. And to answer your question: I don't think Toyota offers anything like a mustang.
I do agree with this, and don't get people argument well it is only a 30-40k sports car like the price should change the quality. I wonder at what price range the transmission should not thud?

I have drove several now and all have done it as said above I think some do it worse than others. My first 15 GT didn't do it at first than started. Dealership told me it was normal the second 15 GT did it from 52 miles of picking it up. I agree for the price the quality should be there and money should not have to be put into it make it correct.

I am in the acceptance phase.

I agree, the car should not do it, but I am not going to chase the dealer or a bunch of parts to get rid of it.

The trans gear whine gets on my nerves way more than the thud.

Fwiw, I'm at about 6,000 miles and I have virtually no tranny whine anymore. Was quite loud when I first got it. Not sure at what point it stopped, but I remember realizing awhile back that there was no whine coming from the tranny - or at least very, very minimal whine.

Edit: Thinking about it, maybe the lack of whine has something to do with the warmer weather (I got the car in December). Though if you are hearing it now, maybe not. Maybe just takes a bit of break-in. Or maybe I am lucky. Dunno.

It is ridiculous that this tranny thuds like it does. But the fact is it does and it is considered normal by Ford.

Is it annoying? Yes. Does it affect the operation of the tranny? No. Can Ford fix it? Maybe. Will they fix it? I doubt it, but one can hope.

In the meantime, instead of getting bent out of shape about the thud, I am going to enjoy the car and focus on all the things it does right. Of which there are a lot.

This is a good threat but I don't think FMC will change design *habits* because of this..
I am old as the hills and first experienced this "thud" in a 1966 Mustang (in 1966) with a strong 289 motor. Pretty much the same sound, same grab/release, randomly.. I'm not automotive engineer but I've known this to be described as drive-line slop..and it exist today. Tolerances aren't as tight as maybe they could be (?) and we probably wouldn't be happy if the drive-line was connected (to hide) the *slop* with rubber bushings (like many other makes..).
What concerns me is that it will never get better, just worse.
Having said that, when the warranty has come and gone, my car will be modded (not wildly) to the point that I probably won't notice a thud.. Otherwise my base GT is problem free out of the box and I'm happy as a Hog in S%#T.
My two cents worth..

I have just over 600 miles on mine. I get the thud when shifting to first from a stop. Along with not being able to shift the damn thing smoothly half the time (most likely thanks to the clutch spring), I have noticed some slight trans whine also. Roush axle backs overpower that noise though.

I have noticed a slight rattle? Coming from the front end after the clutch is fully engaged pulling away in first gear.

This trans makes just as many odd noises if not more than my brothers 2000 150k mile Camaro. Kinda of annoying for a brand new car...

Give it some time it will whine louder, need headers to cover it. Mine started at around 14k miles, shifts perfect though! Almost like I got straight cut gears, waiting for someone to ask me what blower im running so I can answer MT82

Yea the whine doesn't bother me much. Coming from a built evo, I'm used to it lol. It's the thud and weird rattling noises that concern me more. We'll see if they get any worse by the time I take it in for my free oil change, then I may bring it up to service

Have you guys been able to bring this up to your Ford Dealers? If so, what have they said?

You guys can add me to the list. I've mentioned this thudding issue in a few threads since I bought the car in February. Just noticed this thread and figured I'd mention it here.

I'm currently at about 10,500 miles on my 2015 GT Premium (non-PP, with 20" wheels and 3.55 gears) and I still get the thudding about the same as I did when I first got the car with 8 miles. I guess I've gotten so used to it that I don't notice it as much but it's definitely still there.

Deysha, while I honestly wouldn't waste my time taking it to the dealer JUST for this (Ford needs to get their dealers to provide loaner cars!!), I do need to take it in for a few other issues so I guess I might as well add this one to the list. I was originally just planning on my oil change and tire rotation but will now have them also look at:

- Why the guidance lines on my screen for my backup camera disappeared and can't be turned back on through any apparent option.

- Why I'm getting a metallic vibration/rattle coming from the rear when starting the car or even revving it once warm. Upon cold start it has the scary rhythmic pattern of valves tapping but is at the rear so I'm guessing it's just coincidence. (I did record a video of the sound happening which I'll have to figure out how to post in another thread).

- Why my driveline is thunking. (Just added!)

I’m happy to get this escalated for you, MSMStannyl. Please make an appointment and PM me with your VIN, dealer, mileage, full name, and best daytime number.

Add me to the list. The car is about two weeks old and has done it since day one. I definitely get thud sounds but more worrisome is I'll get actually bounce back against the shifter like the transmission is sliding back. I've found the only way to help is to ride the clutch which I am not willing to do. I'll have to get it checked at some point...

I have a 2016 GT that also has this issue from 1-4 and is quite loud (I can often hear it over my FRPP Sport exhaust). Mine feels almost like the syncros aren't slowing the input shaft enough before locking into gear, which causes the gears to hit (also causing it to creep forward when shifting into 1st from a dead stop). No grinding though. I questioned this when test-driving before I ordered and was told it was normal as well.
