This question came up for me from a comment made by @ICU812. How many of you keep a log whether on paper or in Excel or Word of everything that you’ve done to the car barring things like car washes. Fluid changes and mods that were added on what date and by whom whether it was yourself or a speed shop. I know that I do because if I ever get rid of this car I want the person to know that I have really taken care of it and I know exactly what’s on it and when it was done.

I write down all oil changes, and do pretty good job documenting stuff in online build threads. Which reads as a fairly complete history of the car during my ownership.

Every car I own, when I buy it, new or used, even if when I get it it is 45 years old, I go get a 3 ring binder and Start entries.
Day I bought it, from who, where, and any other info , copy of bank check, etc.
Parts that came with it if any.
Then anything I do to it, gets entered into the binder.
With, date, brand, part # description of item where I bought it. and invoice from vendor.
I have never been asked for less than I'm asking for, once they are handed the binder and they look in it.
I do black out any personal info that might be on the invoices, like account # with vendor, and such.
It also helps, if a part you installed fails, and need a replacement, You might remember you added a global west front tall spindle and arms, but what vertion? what brakes package, what wheel bearing it use. ball joints, etc.
It takes a little extra time but worth it.
