So on our bucket list trip around the USA. In Lake Tahoe area going for breakfast and topping off the gas tank before our ride down to the Bay Area ($5.19/gal Premium).

I started slowly driving (25mph max) and suddenly the wrench light went on and car went into limp mode. It flashed the code description briefly. I pulled over and turned the car off for about 30 sec, then started it again and and the M1 was fine.

We continued or trip to the South Bay and took it to Ford Dealer for an oil change and code diagnoses.

Code was P0618 - Internal Control Module Torque Calculation Performance.

So what the hell happened?

The car has 4717 miles now, no issues otherwise and since. Oil was still fairly clean before the change and at the bottom of the grid so really no consumption if anything 1/2 quart.

I did say I topped off the gas tank at an out of the way nasty Chevron that I actually did a double take on, does this place have Premium from 2 years ago? Only put in 5 gallons but some how thought this could be the cause.

What am I missing? Was this just the CPU needing a reboot?

Anyone's input would be helpful. Dealer had no clue what it was or what to do.

P0618 alternative fuel module fault. Could have been just some sketchy gas or the module couldn’t figure out what you just put in the tank.

This happened with my 2019 PP2 on the way into work when I first got it but it instantly flashed then went away. That same day on the way home it happened again but stayed in limp mode and threw that code and statement. If I remember correctly both conditions happened when I was downshifting with rev match.

when I got home I pulled the negative battery cable and left it for about 2 hours. That was two years ago and rock solid since. I think this triggers a KAM reset but you only need to do it for 10-15 minutes, or if you have a tuner device like a nGauge it can perform the KAM reset.

no idea if this will help you but worth sharing the experience
