Maybe the washer bottle should have a 'Dip Stick' or maybe it does ?
No need can easily see the fluid from outside unless someone is using some clear solution, mine is blue atleast the kind that has some alcohol so it doesn't mold over.

You'll notice that all the really smug answers seem to be coming from places that don't get significant amounts of snow regularly and people don't need to deal with salty slush.

Running out of washer fluid during a highway trip with a lot of salt on the road is a problem. Not being able to clear the salt off the windshield makes it nearly impossible to see. Knowing it's coming gives you time to refill before spending a bunch of time trying to see out a blurred windshield waiting for a gas station to show up so you can get some more fluid.

I live in the Midwest where we get plenty of snow and salt. It's really a normal maintenance thing to me. I always fill it anytime I change the oil, and give it a glance anytime the hood is up. I don't ever remember actually running out or needing something to tell me when my washer fluid is low.

They come from MEN who know who to do proper maintenance and know to regularly check fluids, so running out would never be a problem.

On a trip our BMW had a warning light come on. All it said was to see dealer immediately. Stopped our trip, found the nearest BMW dealer, took it in -- washer fluid was low. That's all. Friggin' trip to a dealer for that! Don't have any BMW's any more.
