I've searched with no success on this. My '18 has 2k miles. I noticed that there's a loud tapping coming from the lower right side of the engine. It's louder than the injector noise and can be heard clearly from outside the vehicle - but not from inside with the windows closed. I noticed in a drive through when the sound bounced off the building. The noise is not present when the engine is cold - only at temp, i.e. 210F.

Any ideas?

Ahh yeh thats pretty loud. These car have the ticking noise but very mild and you can barely hear it and once warm it goes away. But yours is pretty loud

Have you checked the oil lately?

Oil level is at the bottom side of the hash marks - but not below.

Usually these posts are people overreacting about some engine running sound that is completely normal....this...sounds a little too loud for my comfort - I'd get to the dealer asap.

Sounds like a collapsed lash adjuster

Possible timing chain tensioner failure. Tensioners are controlled by oil pressure. If a TCT seal has failed you'll not only get that sound, but reduced oil flow to downstream components. Get it to a dealership ASAP. My main TCT has a failed seal and is scheduled for replacement Monday. I haven't driven it since they told me the reason for my noise.
BTW, mine only makes noise when warm. No rattle/ticking when cold.

Yep, something is amiss there. Take it to the dealer. My engine has all kind of clicks and taps, but nothing as loud as that.

Meant to update this... After several trips to the dealer, the noise was finally persistent enough for them to take action. When they looked at the filter, there was steel and copper bits. Also, when they pulled the valve cover, some cam journals showed scoring. The car was never low on oil. Engine was eventually replaced and car returned almost 2 months later. Maxwell Ford did a a great job. I didn't see any scratches or signs of replacement. The only thing I really noticed was slight tool marks on the STB bolts. In the end Ford did a goodwill buyback. Now that took longer than the repair.

Wow, thank you for the update. That's kind of crazy. Glad you got it all settled. Are you done with Mustangs for now or are you willing to try another one?
