Loose shift knob.

Hey new-guy here. I am finally able to drive my car after bringing her home and having it dump 3' of snow the next day that stuck around months. I'm in love with my car but it has one annoying problem. The shift knob is loose and if I turn it until it is tight it points to about 4 o'clock. Anyone else have that issue?

No but if you could back it all the way off then reassemble with some blue locktight. Make sure the threads are clean.

my 17 was this way. when I got it home I put some blue Loctite on it and re installed it pointing in the right direction. its been good since last November

Same here, I had the same problem upon delivery. Blue Loctite did the trick for me as well, but do not use red Loctite or you will hate yourself when the time comes to remove the knob, blue is plenty strong for this job.

As the others have said, take off, clean, and use blue loctite BUT, consider yourself lucky. Some guys have trashed their shift knobs attempting to take them off (knob replacement, shifter upgrades, etc...). You might want to live with it for awhile as you get to know the car.

I've had two GT350s now - and both of them had loose shift knobs. I ended up moving to an MGW shifter in the current car and slapped on a custom Anarchy Motives knob. They are beautiful, heavy and feel great in the hand.

Get some teflon tape and wrap a lot of it. I have done it several times, rock solid.

If you use the extra thick pink teflon tape, you wouldn't need to wrap as much :D

Teflon tape is meant to be used in applications of 2-3 layers max. I imagine blue loctite would be more than adequate to hold the knob in place and not difficult all to remove if ever need be.

Red loctite on the other hand should be illegal haha

That's my concern. I've tried to remove mine half heartedly a few times and it's very tight. I have a MGW coming in today and plan on using the factory knob...hope I can get it off!

Put a cloth or towel over the knob and, if you got one, use an oil filter wrench (the kind with the rubber strap). Should be able to put a LOT of force on it then without risking doing any damage to the knob itself as there's no teeth or anything biting onto it, just the rubber strap itself.

I second what Justin said. The knob is oblong so an old style strap wrench that tightens down as you apply torque should do the trick! Good luck w the install:cheers:
