Mazdaspeed six wouldn't hit 163, but it would hit over 140, and could do it for extended periods. Virtually every BMW I owned in Germany could exceed 100-120 for as long as I desired. The same also goes for my friends Volvo turbo, Audis, and Mercedes. These were basic trim cars also, not the performance models such as AMG etc.

I agree 163 is flying, its 264kph, I never had a car that fast there, but we would frequently drive 230-240kph in cars capable of it. I was often passed by Porsche's and performance trim vehicles doing at least that.

A 30k Mustang GT should have no issue. Probably a Camaro SS would do it. Easily for 10-15 minutes I would assume. Probably a 2011+ Mustang GT would also have no problem.

I wouldn't be surprised if an '89 Mustang GT could do it. It might only get to 150-155, but it wouldn't get hot.

Ford didn't offer them in the "most track capable Mustang ever". I would have paid. Heck, I would have bought a track pack if it would have been clear a couple years ago that the heat issues would be so severe. Why put track capable brakes on a car and then not make the car capable of track driving? A regular Mustang GT without the PP option could test the brakes a lot more than a GT350 tech/base.

Almost any factory car can go to the track and lap no problem. It's silly to claim that people should assume they need the track option in order to go to an HPDE. I've only been to the track a couple times, but if you ever go there you will see all kinds of things. SUVs, 4 cylinder cars, old V8 sedans, etc. I've never seen any of them have to pull off the track repeatedly - especially in relatively cool weather like we have in Minnesota.

Couple points
1) Can some one link these adds im curious, BMW touts the driving performance of the 3 series but still sold a 318.
2) If you track a track car and it fails FORD appears to honor the warranty on the car many manufactures would not.
3) Many cars will let you track them does mean it isnt detrimental to the car in the long run. The other car ive tracked did not have a differential or transmission temp sensor and it had half the power.

Would not have a issue with what? Just because the car doesnt go into limp doesnt mean there arent issues.

I paid for the track package that had the coolers. The 2017 has the track package as standard and the base went up by the cost of the track package.

Whats hard to get?

If you are saying there should of been no non track models I dunno If I never planed on tracking I might not want to pay the 3500 extra for the option.

I agree the TECH or TRACK option on the 2016 was dumb

1. I think it's BS that the car doesn't have a cooler when it needs one to compete with other brands and live up to customer expectations. It's that simple. In this market segment, it is unacceptable. I imagine camaro guys are laughing...
If I didn't own the car, I would say the same thing, it has nothing to do with responsibility.

well GM is going to provide a fix for all 2016-2016 z06 auto owners next month.
to me that is good news, cause it will force Ford to do the same thing for base/tech 2016 owners.

I have no doubt in my mind that the fixes will be released this year.

Dare I say they learned from the Z06. 2017 Z06 has added cooling, and the Camaro comes from the factory properly.

Congrats though FordMoCo, the 800 bucks a unit you saved to give the base and tech a different transmission unit, super smart move. Had they no idea some folks would minimally desire a retrofit? The Camaro is fugly, and has no soul. I couldn't own one, but the folks at GM seem to be getting their performance shit together. Ford is lucky that car is ugly as shit.

This exactly. If the SS wasn't so god awfully ugly, I would def be taking a serious look and I am a Ford guy; I just explained to my coworkers what happened and I am at a loss as to how to defend ford.

We shouldn't need to defend Ford. They are an American icon, and Mustang sits at the pinnacle of that icon.

As you well know, our European friends are running their Ecoboosts and GTs hard and fast on the Autobahn for extended periods with no issue. Won't mention the very affordable stock European cars that sustain higher speeds for longer periods.

It's up to Ford to make sure that all forms of the GT350 perform to an acceptable minimal level--with or without coolers. No matter what that subjective minimum is, it's certainly greater than 3.5 minutes at less than max speed or 15 minutes on the track.

Ford owes a fix...period.

Same here, I heard about the issues about 5 days after I took delivery of my car. Even though I was not planning to track it, it is still misleading on the advertising of the car. I still love it though and whenever they might come out with the cooler solution I will be getting it.

First I'd like to thank Firestarter and JB350 for turning this into another "BaseTech buyers should have known better" thread.

It's obvious from the amount of Base/Tech owners on this forum that this situation was NOT foreseeable.

I personally bought a performance car that I thought would perform better than a Mustang GT. I didn't get the track package because I've never driven on a track, but thought maybe sometime I would. That dictated the tech package in my mind.

Ford's rep is tarnished to a relatively small group of people, but a group of people who could afford a $56k car. If ford doesn't fix this to my satisfaction then my wife's next SUV will not be a Ford or the next car I buy myself when the GT350 is paid for.
