Another Pony Car Coming
Yes, many of us have not seen there cars on track yet but to say many tech cars will never see track time is BULL. Most of us plan to track our cars to some degree. Why would anyone buy "the most track worthy mustang ever built" and not track it. HPDE events are now one of the most popular things going on for motorsport enthusiasts. I've waited 50 years for this car and I have better not be disappointed when I track it. Myself like Jay Leno who says as a kid he used to go to dealer lots and look into the window of a 65 GT350 and wish. I could not afford one then but I can now. If my 350 goes limp on track and Ford does nothing about it I will first write letters to the editors of every car magazine in country. If Ford still does not address the issue I will go further. It's wait and see what happens. I've waited 50 years so I can wait a little longer.
With Ford supposedly producing ~2200 to ~2400 tech pack cars for the 2016MY and if most of them see the track as you have suggested then you are a lot closer to the action than I am. Maybe I am just to much out of the loop at my old age.

BTW, it is my understanding that not every tech pack car goes limp on the track and hopefully your car will not go into limp mode when you track it otherwise you will have a lot of letter writing to take care of.

Exactly what do you want, more than what is being done? I want ford to acknowledge the problem. I don't want to be charged FULL RETAIL MARKUP for the parts and labor to fix the problem. The parts can't void the warranty and must have their own warranty that extends to the end of my original warranty. (I don't want to pay to add a cooler then when the cooler leaks damaging the system it was cooling Ford comes back with covering the cooler but not the system it was cooling).

How much time should Ford get to resolve this? The acknowledgement needs to be made pretty quickly with a timetable for the solution. Less than a year. We've already been waiting for these cars a long time.

For the most part that seems reasonable.
So we have heard, Ford is now working on a solution, yes?
I am not sure when they started, but how about we give them
a few weeks and see what they are saying.
Some here are ready to start a lawsuit and best I can tell don't even have there
cars yet.

I look at it this way, we have a few reported cases, but I think most realize it
is a problem and needs to be solved, Ford is working on it and based on
how short of time, they have responded quickly. Hopefully they come up
with a fix, that is reasonable and everyone is happy with.

I do doubt all will be happy, but some people can't be made happy, this thread
proves that.

Sticking my toe back into troubled waters . . .

A very interesting interweb-pseudo-factoid is that--IIRC--3 track pack cars have also gone into limp mode. Wasn't that the report about some cars at Road Atlanta, either earlier in this thread, or the "will Ford make a cooler for my 2016 Tech" thread, or on the SVT site?

IF that's accurate, does that change the dynamic of this, um, conversation?

Now we went from 1 rumored track pack car...to 3??? And with zero data or input from that single track pack car what might have caused the power reduction?

But please, lets speculate even more.

Hey so, I'm all for not denying that somebody's experience is a fact. But I'd really like to hear it from these people first hand. So far, I've only heard of "people on another forum" or "reports". When we reference these, can we link to them or hopefully they'll come on here and give the information first hand.

All these "I've heard" comments aren't helpful overall.

I wasn't one talking law suit, in fact I only saw that once until it was sited several times later.

I did state that a jury probably doesn't want to hear about a bunch of guys who bought $60k cars arguing over stats with a billion dollar company.

I'm frustrated with a general attitude of "you should have known" or "you didn't get the track version". Those responses completely ignore the purpose of this car.

I'm looking forward to the fix, but it is frustrating to have yet another problem thrown on the piles of problems I've had obtaining this car.

This is the worst car buying experience I have had. I only can hope that I reached the bottom and the car owning experience will more than make up for the last year.

Yes... oil cooling to start. I know 2 guys who had stock Z/28s and the first limp mode problems they both encountered was highly elevated (300+ degrees) oil temps. They both had to resort to aftermarket oil intercoolers to remedy the issue. One is a PCA instructor... a good friend of mine.

Him on my azz last year... :D

And it now pushes north of 600rwhp.

Some Z/28 owners have experienced problems, yes..but not with the transmission temps as far as I know.

A few Z/28 owners across different forums have had the car overheat and go into "Reduced Engine Power" mode. The bigger problem with the Z/28 is the very high engine oil temps, not just water. They run nearly 300 degrees during track sessions even with a dedicated external oil cooler.

LS7's have issues with dropping valves and such though..so every car has its own set of problems.

Here's the report in another thread. We've got double and triple hearsay, and its unclear whether all the reported limp modes were in track pack cars, but . . .

Post # 126: http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45022&page=7

As a base owner I will only be disappointed when I go to a track day soon and the car goes into limp mode. I agree ALL gt350s should handle track duty with ease. Base and Tech should be able to run an hour or two while the track pack should run all day with NO issues. I really think the production models we received probably have some running changes creating these issues of excess heat. This is a new car with a new engine and transmission for Ford. One of my friends in Ohio with a track pack went to Atlanta on some track club event and his track also went into limp mode. He said there were 3 gt350s and all eventually went into limp mode. He had about 1100 miles on his before track. I am thinking the combo of high reving engine, new transmission and exhaust tight quarters with extra resonators are the problem? I have heard of 4 track packs and alot of base/techs going into limp mode. Also the thermostat issues may be also adding to this? I am sure Ford will come up with a fix because the gt350 from Ford's mouth before release was a track focused car vs. Straight line speed and their reputation is on the line let alone the competition using this to STEAL sales not only from the Shelby line but Mustang and every other high performance moniker they have.
I am sure Ford will step in whether retrofit coolers, resonator delete, thermostat change and new engine tune for us. Lots on the line.

Also asked a friend in the auto mfg biz(fca viper engineer) about the new trans. He said it is good but too light weight in his opinion and the extra heat from high reving engine probably creating a lot of extra heat. He also said all the plastic aero covering under the car is more for speed, efficiency, downforce, etc. But locks a lot of the heat in if not properly designed.
He did throw a big bone to Ford though and said this is such a drastic motor move that all other mfgs eyes are opening to new possibilities and exploring the same. He has run a gt350r test mule for laps and laps and said it was awesome. He thought this would be an easy fix. I am in Michigan today and trying to meet him up for dinner and pick his brain.

You don't even have the car and a handful of reports of undiagnosed problems is making this is your worst car-buying experience?

I hope it helps you to know that according to a phone call I just finished, Ford is aware of the reports and is investigating.

It's a lot more than just a handful of reports. Some of the issues I've had are ford's fault and a lot more are the dealer's fault (wait til I get the survey). And one major issue is just lousy timing with my up coming deployment.

Again, I am super excited about the car, I just don't want anything souring what is supposed to be my most "exciting" purchase.

Since Technically the Nurburgring is a toll road and not a track, does that mean we shouldn't get Limp mode driving it?

Hoping for the best, but time will tell. When I called FP, they said they could not guarantee it could handle the Ring or extended speeds on the Autobahn. Time will tell.

**Break**

Are you going to the event in Luxembourg in June or will you be TDY? Not looking to break opsec. PM if you want more info.

I'll miss it this year. I'll be gone for nine months.

Looks like I'm getting my car about a week before I leave.
