Nice! Thanks for the pics Simmons-Racing.

Where did you get the automotive terminals from? They don't come with the battery, right?

Update on the lightweight battery........ Ford decided to free wheel the alternator on the highway and only charge when needed. So I drove 7 hours to Wilmington Ohio for the pro solo and the battery is having a really hard time starting the car.

When I get home I might just put the stock battery back in and just take the lightweight one with me for big events.

the last time I needed a new battery and wanted to lose a few pounds without compromising reliability I got one of these. it says shipping weight is 25 lbs but I think that is a rounded up number that includes packaging materials

http://www.batterymart.com/p-12v-mazda-miata-battery.html
I was wondering if one of these would work. Not for lower weight, but just because they are quality items. Tough and built like they used to be, with no maintenance required. I used one of these Miata AGM batteries on 3 different cars over 10+ years and never had a failure... it was still working when I sold that last car (didn't have a regular one to swap into it at the time). Meanwhile my Dad has been left on the roadside by 3 regular batteries in the same period of time, one OEM and two aftermarket replacement. My only hesitation with trying one for my car is I don't know if it has enough juice to operate the power convertible top plus all the electronics and start the car as well. If there is a problem they don't like to be jumpstarted, it can damage them. If you need to charge them externally you need a charger designed for AGM too.

I think you nailed it Simmons; In retrospect I would have only used the LW battery while on/at track and switched back as part of the pack-up and victory (straightish) lap back to home or hotel :)

Any challenges with installing it? Pics? I'll go and google it now.

And mine is not a daily driver.

I've done a PC680 Odyssey in a daily driver 2003 Maxima (went a little crazy modding that family sedan) and ran into some issues, especially since it had an underdrive pulley. But it handled quite a bit. Just not stuck in a lengthy traffic jam at night during a cold rainstorm type stuff.
I went kind of overboard modding a 1996 maxima :)
