Shouldn't we be thinking outside the chrome, silver and now ever so common and trendy black box?
Check out my post #101. ;)

And the thing is if indeed a majority of vehicles would switch to black wheels, I would find something else. I don't want to drive what everyone else is. That doesn't mean I want to drive something purposely ugly just to be different, I want to find something that looks good to me and stand apart from the crowd.

Re-read my quote. I said "most" boomers. You are obviously set aside from the establishment boomers and show that you can expand your horizons and think outside the silver and chrome box. ;)
Sorry, need to find my glasses...

What constitutes a 'fad'?
Wikipedia's definition (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fad) is about as good as it gets, and I'm not going to try to re-invent that wheel. Not today. Boldface mine.

Wikipedia said:
A fad is any form of behavior that develops among a large population and is collectively followed enthusiastically for a period of time, generally as a result of the behavior being perceived as popular by one's peers or being deemed "cool" by social media. A fad is said to "catch on" when the number of people adopting it begins to increase rapidly. The behavior will normally fade quickly once the perception of novelty is gone.

The specific nature of the behavior associated with a fad can be of any type including language usage, apparel, financial investment, and even food [I'll insert car appearance mods here - Norm].

Apart from general novelty, fads may be driven by mass media programming, emotional excitement, peer pressure, or the desire of "being hip".Fads may also be set by popular celebrities.

Though the term trend may be used interchangeably with fad, a fad is generally considered a quick and short behavior whereas a trend is considered to be a behavior that evolves into a relatively permanent change.
A really good example of a wheel fad was the "spinners" of the last decade. When was the last time you saw a set of those on a vehicle (typically an SUV)? Black wheels will almost certainly outlast spinners, but I doubt they'll have the staying power of silver/aluminium.

I put black wheels on my Liberty / Legacy over seven years ago. Still love the look.
That's your preference, obviously your active choice, and I have no problem with that.

The "winter wheels" on my wife's Legacy (2.5GT) are basically in aluminium-finish and I like them better than the OE Subie wheels for both design and color.

If Ford was to offer PP wheels in a nice, safe silver, would that be more acceptable to your independent mind?
Minus the "nice, safe" editorializing, I'm sure it would be. Although I'd very likely eventually be doing something about any wheel width stagger even if that only meant getting a second set of OE rears so I could square up the wheel package.

I still like the GT500 wheels I run on the Mustang for three seasons of the year (they're just barely visible in my avatar pic). Better than the "regular GT" polished Bullitt/Torque-Thrust wheels. The really wide wheels for my track time are due in on Monday, and yes, they're silver.

Sounds like some may be worried that black wheels may be moving past the fad stage to become the expected norm. ;)

Well I did see black wheels on a new Nissan Altima, so maybe that is some kind of sign.

Everybody has their opinion so this will never be solved. The basic problem is that so far Ford isn't providing an option. I expect that will change soon.

Correct options offered are nice.

And you must have missed my pun.

Being opinionated, knowing why, with a little light-hearted crotchetiness thrown in for good measure is maybe normal once you get to a certain stage in your life. Might as well enjoy it.

Oh yeah, the 18 x huge silver Forgestars came in a couple days ago while I was off driving at a Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course track day (with a few Camaro5 folks). :D

Gloss black is better than satin or flat black in my book, the reflection from the gloss lets you see the wheel shape better. Flat black does remind me of the old steelies.

Wish I could get the Gloss Black PP 19 inchers on my automatic GT I'd like to order. :(
I'm sure they'll be available from FRPP within a year after launch!

I like damn near anything, but I feel like the car needs to come together as a whole. I wouldn't just slap black wheels on a light colored car because it contrasts. The car needs other black accents as well to really draw out the wheels. On a similar note, I personally wouldn't slap black wheels on a black car because you're basically just driving a black blob at that point. There has to be a certain complimenting and contrasting theme going on with the whole car to really make ANY wheels work. It really comes down to personal taste, and personally, if someone doesn't like the choice I make they can go jump off a cliff. :)

remember the whole chrome 22" wheel fad that was popular several years ago, especially on SUV's?....phew I'm glad that fad went away....now u hardly ever see any chrome wheels anymore. Could this be the same for black wheels?
yeah, disgusting.

however, black never goes out of style (as a color).

What's wrong with a black blob!?! :D

Although seeing so many murdered-out cars on the road now, I am seriously considering changing to Guard on the '15.

(since these pics below, I have added Roush axle-backs, that I painted matte black, and window tint.)
