remember the whole chrome 22" wheel fad that was popular several years ago, especially on SUV's?....phew I'm glad that fad went away....now u hardly ever see any chrome wheels anymore. Could this be the same for black wheels?

I've really been attuned to this whole black wheel thing recently because of 2015 PP wheels issue, and have noticed quite a few cars with black wheels on the street. Didn't really like the way a single one of them looked, and trust me, I'm trying really hard to appreciate them. The wheels were just completely lost in the black. No pop. Had to look hard to even tell what kind of spoke design some of them had.

I want to like them because I'm pretty set on getting the PP, but it's just not happening at this point (liking them). Frustrating. I didn't want to have to deal with the trouble and expense of upgrading the wheels right off the bat, but it's looking more and more like I'll have to go that route. The only other 'stock' wheels that I care for that have equivalent dimensions to the PP wheels are the ones that come on the 50th LE model. Wonder what the odds are that those will available in the parts bin for dealer install at launch?
+1 You sound EXACTLY like me, well said!

The shame of it is the PP wheels are a nice design, and would look great if you could see them. But black wheels disappear, and so there's just a black blob where a nice wheel design should be. Look at the PP wheels versus the 20s. No comparison in my book, though I am not a fan of rim-protector 35-series tires and will stay with 18s or 19s.

My favorites are mostly charcoal/polished combinations, which look good on cars of all colors. Will probably go with the base 18s, then upgrade to something aftermarket at the first tire change and use the 18s for winter tires or sell them.

Me thinks you black wheel haters are in the noisy minority.

A nuisance, but it's not too difficult or expensive to have them painted.
Don't powder coat them and make sure they don't paint the inner mounting face.
The PP wheels are a nice design and have a good staggered size.

I HATE, HATE, HATE Black Wheels!!!
Especially ALL BLACK Wheels! Nothing will change My Opinion on this. In MY OPINION the Only Possible way Black Wheels COULD Possibly Look OK is if they have a Machined Lip to Differentiate the Wheel from the Tire and at least give a Visual Clue that there is a Wheel sitting in the Dark Cavern of the Wheel Wells. I've said it over and over, I Cannot Wait for this Black Wheel Fad to Die and Don't Even Get Me Started on the whole Donk Thing. It is Freaking RIDICULOUS IN MY OPINION.
Tell us how you really feel. ;)

If that is in fact true (and I have my doubts), that means that there are still a few of us who are independent-minded enough to not be slaves to every single fad that comes down the pike.

When you consider the entire Mustang customer base, not just the relatively few internet message board participants who seem to want anything and everything on the car blacked out, maybe it's the black wheel fans who are really in the minority.

Stagger aside, I wonder what they'd look like in the natural aluminum finish before the paint went on. And what it would take to return them to that state.

What constitutes a 'fad'?
I put black wheels on my Liberty / Legacy over seven years ago. Still love the look.

If Ford was to offer PP wheels in a nice, safe silver, would that be more acceptable to your independent mind?

I actually like the fact that black wheels piss most Baby Boomers off. It is the "anti-chrome".

Aside from that I like the contrast they provide with lighter colors. Black looks good with yellow as well. Silver clashes with yellow. Buy what you want and who gives a fuck what the haters think. Your money, your choice and I'm glad we get some choices, just wish there were MORE to choose from.

As for the argument, black wheels because RACECAR, we all know the best race cars sport Gold Wheels. Gold is for winning.

Careful there, I'm technically a Baby Boomer and love the black wheel / grunge look at the moment.

I guess the fashions change; Centrelines looked good at the time, white wheels were all the rage in the 80's. Subaru had gold wheels for a long time on the STi.

I'd actually like to see gold wheels offered with certain colors as well. They can look good with black, white and some reds and some blues. Frankly I'd wish they would offer body color matching wheels on some vehicles or at least body color matching pockets or inserts on some wheels as well. I'm so damn sick of the boring silver painted wheel and its chromed brethren. Its about as vanilla as it gets in my book. Of course some people like vanilla.

Thanks to Ford half of the new S550's will look like crap with their hideous black wheels.

I never liked Centrelines. Preferred the dished 5 spoke back then and the then new, but rare BBS basket. although the majority were definitely centreline fans. Rim choice is tough as there is so much choice. I still haven't found the right wheels to replace my Stock Boss rims as yet and it's been several years if hunting. Gotta look great, be made really well and most importantly be really light. Then pricing and colour...argh!

Re-read my quote. I said "most" boomers. You are obviously set aside from the establishment boomers and show that you can expand your horizons and think outside the silver and chrome box. ;)

Shouldn't we be thinking outside the chrome, silver and now ever so common and trendy black box?
