Launching at the track

Hey all,

Been going to the track lately to have a good time with friends, but competitive me just isn't satisfied each time I go because my times are absolute shit.

My best 1/4 was 14.9 before I got a tune from MPT. With a tune I ran 14.9. Before everyone starts yelling driver mod (duh :headbonk: ) I feel like my launches are what's causing these awful times.

So the question is - what is your best way to launch the car on street tires that you found works for you and makes for good times?

My 60' is like 2.3/2.4
My 1/4 was 14.97 @ 95mph and 15.01 @ 100mph

I might have the slips in the car still, but I'm not sure.

What's the elevation looking like there? I trapped higher than that bone stock.

always run with advance trac off. hold the TC button down till it says its off. even if you just turn off TC, it still kicks in once it starts to spin, bogging the car. ive found through testing on track aps that my best method of launching results in a little spin. if it hooks and bogs, its slow, and if it spins too much, its slow. need it to spin just a little, then go. also, where are you shifting? should be around 6700-6800. ive found running to 7k doesn't help.

I run with Advance trac off. I shift at 6800/6900. When I sit in line I turn the car off, but the intake temp goes up to like 60-70C anyways.

I'd say that's why vs. the 262 ft I am at. My 60 FT times were worse and I managed better times/traps taking off like a grandpa. I don't think he's heat soaking. Elevation is a b*tch. Either way at 100mph you have 13's in it. It's a combination of launching and a good tire. I can't blame you if you were taking off the light trying to not break anything lol. I can relate to that.

yeah getting a good 60ft will shave a lot of time off, 1.9 should be possible with a good hook. You just want a tiny chirp at launch no spin. Street tires are wacky. Check out the drag section and read all their story's. with a good >1.9 60ft you'd see the numbers you'd love. try launching at different RPM's you'll find the right number for you. It takes some time but you'll have to play around with it with street tires. It's all about 60ft times, the rest is all shift at 6800 and drive it like you stole it. Don't think about car payments, don't think about breaking anything, and you'll start hooking.

I'm running 89 MPT race tune right now (about to switch to 91), but even then I'm below stock numbers. I have 285 tires with 20" wheels which are heavy but still.

Anyhow, what RPM have you guys tried launching at with stick? I think my best runs came from launching at around 2/2.5k

3k rpm and feather/slip the cluch. My 60ft is 2.0x on stock tires.

20" wheels that are probably pretty heavy are not helping at all.

its not likely the 300ft in elevation is really hurting much. I live at 4000...and its hot here....that hurts lol

now, temp wise, if it was way hotter than your 300ft elev, that can certainly hurt.

these seem like stock times though....or worse. get rid of that 89 tune and get the 91 or 93 if you can. ditch the 20" wheels. atleast on the back

Fwiw, today i ran a back to back comparo on tunes in my track aps. 2600 ft asl, 85 deg...not sure on DA...but high lol. Bot runs were made on my 2 step at 3300, shifting at 6800 to 6900. First i ran my unleashed 91 tune, at 82 deg ambient, 95 deg inlet temp. 13.9@100. Then, after loading my mpt tune, the temp was about 87 deg. Motor was heat soaked, inlet temps were in the 110 to 115 range at begining of pull. 13.7@102. Thats a good 15 to 20hp more on the mot, and it was warmer, and motor was heat soaked. Performed on same piece of road. Moral of the story...try mpt....
