I asked my dealership about the Ford racing tune and they looked at me cross eyed. So come time , I will likely justfind a certified mechanic to install it and submit the invoices to Ford performance myself to register the warranty

So weird question though I'm pretty sure I know the answer. If I have an extended warranty and have the Ford Performance Tune installed will my warranty only last to that first 36,000 miles? If that's the case I might as well install it myself since my Eco is at 37k so there would be no warranty on the tune.

Another interesting thought is the fact that if you trade in a car with an extended warranty, you can put the unused value towards the down payment on the new car. Can you cancel the remainder of an extended warranty and get some money back? Why should it go to waste? I'd look into that before doing the performance upgrade.

Thats a great question because my understanding is unless you trade in or sale the car then i dont believe you can just cancel the extended warranty. Maybe I am wrong.

F&I manager of 15yrs now. You absolutely can cancel at anytime. If you still have a lien on the vehicle the cancellation amount gets sent to the lien holder and is applied to the loan balance.

Nice to know you don't have to let that value go to waste. I suspect you should do it before the upgrade just to be safe.

This tune is coming out at the right time (Fall). Fewer hot days mean less heat management to hamstring the power. Are most people who are considering this tune a.) concerned about warranty and b.) running no other modifications? Next summer might not be fun without at least an intercooler. Just food for thought.

Obvious answer is to buy this now if you live in the northern hemisphere and save your pennies over the winter to get an IC in the spring. Assuming funds are limited, of course.

Curious, have you gotten an install price yet? My nearest FP dealer wants $475.00 just for install. $594.00 for the kit.

Wait... what? Almost 500 bucks just for A TUNE INSTALL AND CAI?! GTFO! ...Oh god. Now I'm really going to be angry if my dealership throws that number at me...

The other question is if the tune can be uninstalled if you trade the car in. If it is uninstalled, can it be resold and installed on another Mustang like most of the 3rd party tuners?
I have a 100k powertrain warranty from Ford. My understanding is that they can only deny a claim if they can show that the tune caused the failure- just like any other aftermarket part. So, I'd be tempted to just install it myself and roll the dice since I already have 21k on the car.
