So I need advice although I know I have to do what I think is best in the end. I have a 2005 GT that's at 55,000 miles and is well modded.
-CAI and tune, UD pulleys, Exhaust, shifter, aluminum drive shaft, 300 rwhp 310 rw torque
-Koni shocks, steeda springs, camber plates, rear control arms, steeda ball joints, bump steer kit, steeda wheels
-a few interior pieces painted
-painted stripes

It's my first Mustang but I want to keep sentimental value out of the equation because I don't believe it's good to be attached to a material object that could be destroyed by any idiot that happens to crash into me.

If I keep the car I want to put in a Tremec Magnum XL but I don't know about spending $6k on a car that has 55k miles on it.

I know that we don't know all the specs yet but with the improvements to the suspension on the 2015 I wonder if the new one will handle better than mine without changing anything. I know it will pull a lot harder. My two main concerns are that it won't be any lighter and it will be a fortune. I will only get a base GT with a track pack but there's no way I'll pay 40 grand for it.

If I get a new one it will be for track fun and weekend driving only. I do love the look of the new car. I think both the S550 and S197 look great.

Any thoughts to make my decision more complicated would be helpful. :D

1. I can pretty much guarantee you that the 2015 will out handle your modified 2005 AND have a nicer ride to boot.

2. The GT will make WAY more power than your modified 2005 -- probably about 100rwhp more.

3. Interior of the 2015 is much nicer.

If you don't mind paying for a new car, I think the 2015 is a no-brainer over a 2005. By all indications it's a vastly superior car in almost every way.

I'd drive the 2005 for another year hard and then move on to the 2016. Your 2005 needs to be driven more! Get some value

If you can afford it, and like the looks of it, I'd certainly pull the trigger on the 2015.

As Scott said, the power difference will be night and day. It'll have a lot of the newer techs, a higher quality interior, and handle much better than you car you have. It's been repeatedly said that the track pack (or performance pack - not sure what packages they'll have) GT will out perform the previous Boss 302.

I think all around the 2015 will be a better car, and not my a slim margin.

The only thing that may turn people off is the exterior and interior design. Obviously don't buy a car you don't think looks good. But if you like the way it looks and can afford it I'd certainly buy it.

People here should stop trying to make purchase decisions on a car they've never had the opportunity to drive yet.

AMEN To that, there is even a thread on what MODS to do on the 2015,OMG I can"t believe all of the hype that is out there, on a car we know so little about, what does it weigh and how much HP does it put out ( 5.0 ) WHAT DOES IT COST??????? I am not a fan of what I have seen in the New Mustang but lets get real here and wait for the test drives and stats.:headbonk:

Save your pennies until you can test drive a 2015. Then decide if you want to use that savings for mods on the 2005 or if you want to put it towards the 2015.

Kinda hard to let that down payment sit in the bank when you've got the mod bug.

You telling me! It's hard being an adult when you're a car guy but it's either instant gratification and risk it wearing off you waiting for something you (might) really want and being satisfied for just a bit longer. I've learned enough from modding my '11 5.0 that I might be able to do the same with the '15 for less money and fewer headaches, and maintain a more comfortable DD.

Thanks for all the comments. You are all backing up what I've been already feeling. I know that I'll have to wait for a test drive to know for sure but I think I'll start saving for a new one so I wouldn't have another loan. The 05 needs new tires badly so I'll get those and enjoy it for about a year, get some good autocrossing in, and then maybe order a new one.

I'll have to remember on a test drive that they intentionally setup these cars with understeer which can give the false impression that it won't handle as well. The first thing I'd do after driving a new one home is check the alignment and probably toe it out a little.

I wish I could keep both of them but I really can't afford it and I don't have a garage that big.

Last I checked they aren't accepting orders yet. It's all just for the sake of planning at the moment...

I'm planning to get one. When the moment of truth comes, if I test drive it and dislike it for some reason (HIGHLY unlikely), I'll abort then.
