How many HP's would a completely stock 5.0 gain with a stock style K&N air filter? Is it worth the price?

Cliff's notes: On a stock car, a few RWHP maybe.

Back-to-back dyno pulls can vary from one pull to the next all things staying the same by 5+ RWHP which is enough to potentially mask any true gains had or make them out to be more than they are. If a stock GT makes 410-420 RWHP, I can't see any human being able to detect a few extra RWHP. I think there is some benefit but you'll be hard pressed to get true data with absolutely no variances to know for sure how much it adds.

You’re asking the wrong question.

Is there a performance gain? Go to a strip and run 1/4 miles with a new OEM vs new K&N. Then do it again with filters with 10,000 miles on them. I’ll bet you can’t measure a difference. K&N is a fashion statement.

I wasn't expecting much. Didn't know if there were any real-world tests done on a dyno that showed any improvements in HP. Thanks for the replies.

6 hp in the stock air box is the dyno result I have seen from researching on line.

K AND N you can clean the paper oem type, not so much.
That is the plus of them, buy it once and done.

But if you're going to do it, you need to make sure you're cleaning and oiling them correctly, otherwise you're going to have MAF issues from an overoiled filter.

Lots of people do, even when reading the instructions. Personally, I have a K&N in my GT. I also read the instructions and oil it properly, but many people do not.

Skip the oiled filters and get a dry washable filter, tighter weave and no risk to the MAF sensor.

Get two of them, when its time to wash, swap to the clean one, and wash the other one.

I don’t even oil mine. I wash it, then let it dry for 24hrs 2X per year (doesn’t get dirty really anyway). I also run a dust/water cover over it.

It depends on where you drive, a dusty area or not.
I clean mine once a year on my other vehicles, don't have one on my mustang yet as it only has 4800 miles on it

I like K&N having used them for 20 years, 5 cars, cleaned @ oil change.

The folks using the od clicks signaling a time for this & that for maintenance are wasting your time.

Change the oil the big one do the other services, rotate tires, intake filter, windshield washer fluid, etc.
