Generally does not happen in Europe.
We’ve got so many uncivilized and ignorant people in this country it’s unbelievable. Very little respect for others, or even for themselves.
Brother, I would really like what you just written to be true.

In my household the only car that have very few dings (I guess it's 3) it's the daily, eight years old and small Lancia Ypsilon.
Anyhow, the last time an idiot dinged her, he found is VW Polo with a thick white line of primer from the front headlight to the stop headlight in the back.
Courtesy of the Ypsilon ignition key.

I know that what I just wrote makes me sound like an asshole, but I'm not. If you damage someone property and you don't care to fix it then you should bear the consequences of what you did.

I hate that. Just about every vehicle I own or have had, this has happened to. People (in general) are just oblivious and/or don't care about other peoples' stuff.

I have scrapes all up and down the side of my daily Ram 1500 from careless COWORKERS who drag their backpacks and cases between vehicles. Unfortunately the parking lot is always full so no way to park away from them.

At any rate, I think a touch up pen or something similar would make it a lot less noticeable.

Good luck.
I don't think it makes a difference if you park far away as someone always parks next to you anyway (at least it did in my case) but fortunately the guy had a nice truck and apparently was careful opening his door. In today's divided society, people just don't respect other people's property and just don't give a sh** about anybody else's things or even the person themselves. So sad that our society has become so horrible which explains why we have to lock our vehicles and our homes and install alarm systems. I remember back in the 60's we NEVER locked our home and neighbors used to watch out for each other.

That sucks. I had a small dent / chip in my passenger's side lower fender. Small I mean .177 pellet size. Unfortunately, it was caused by my friend. I told him no worries; I will take care of it.
$1129.00 later. Holy Crap. I never told him the cost.

It’s Florida. You should’ve just beat flames out of them. You’d get in the same trouble they did. I have cams in mine and motion sensors. I went out today to check my ride since one went off. I parked in lake George and mine went off.

I went out to find some spandex enormity ass fucking my door because she couldn’t fit between her car and mine with 4 feet of room. I cursed her out and was glad nothing happened. My last two rides were totaled by intoxicated people the cops let drive home. F the police. Useless pricks. You should’ve thrown a rock through their window and bounced.
M.O.D. fan?

You need to find an expert to wet sand and polish the touch up paint there. I've had 2 rough scratches/chips now and I have a guy that makes them almost disappear.

I never park anywhere it's convenient. That's where the lazy jerks like to go. Parking garage, I am going to the top. No good spots? Find another garage. There is always other parking. Just not convenient parking.

I feel your pain. I got love tapped on Friday on the D.C. beltway. 18 year old kid wanted to bounce on me. He was like oh your car looks fine. I'm like wait a minute, no my back bumper just scraped by your front license plate screws. I still have t-tags on. He pulled off on the shoulder and I was able to get his name, number, pic of his insurance, and pic of his car/tag. He's all worried about his self. I said maybe you shouldn't be tailgating expensive sports cars on the fucking beltway around DC of all places in a 2007 Ultima.

Staying in Panama City Beach and going on a road trip for the Fourth of July weekend, parked next to two very nice cars in the parking garage. Both of them had left to leave and noticed a mark right above my Mach 1 badge on my fender. The white Ford SUV that pulled up next to me had opened their door into my car. They were still in the car so that just that happened and I asked them if they had hit my car and they said no. I said show me the back door. my red pant was on their inner door edge. I called my insurance they said get a police report. I called the police. The people said it’s a small scratch that they didn’t do it. They wiped my paint of the door. They were not from here..(out of the United States). They were on vacation and in a rental car they wouldn’t give me their license they were not apologetic. Honestly they where nasty about it. I told them I love this car that I’m not even sure if I would go and pursue a claim. The cop comes out, tells me that it’s considered an accident in the state of Florida, but not a car accident so the only things I could do would be going through civil court. Or they pay me now a agreed amount. Ya that wasn’t going to happen…. Insurance companies suck I don’t understand how this wouldn’t qualify under their insurance. I don’t want them to do all the paintwork into the door our hood. I just wanna make it less noticeable… ps there is a beautiful GT500 at the restaurant I went to. He was smart enough to park away from everyone!

Years ago ( probably 35 ) friend has a 80's Camaro with the big doors. Guy did it to his car and was a jerk about it. So he moved his car, opened the passenger door and laid in his car and kicked it open into his car. I don't recommend that :)

People suck. Same thing happened to me, but I didn't notice until after it happened.

I got a dealer paint pen and I slowly filled in the chip with thin layers of paint over a few days allowing it to dry each time. A VERY light sand around the edges and some hand polishing got it level. You can't even see it now. It took lots of patience, but its way easier than an insurance claim.

Yup people are careless and straight up don't care. Get a dash cam with parking mode and get it installed. You'll save yourself some headache in the future as at least you will not even need to interact with idiots and can go straight to police/insurance with the footage.
Same thing happened to me recently, and once to my wife. Dual dash cam helped both times. Both in private parking lots, both times police were called and supported my side, even though they have no obligation on private property. But they will make sure insurance info gets exchanged.

In the wife's case, the driver backed into her bumper and then left. We called the cops, showed him the footage, and he said it was basically a "hit and run". He tracked down the guy, and he paid the $500 deductible for bumper repaint.

When this happens, it's good to try to calm yourself as quickly as possible, and then immediately start taking photos. For example a photo of the back end of their car gets you the license plate and possible a rental car badge.
Guys, I just had my Stang totaled while she was parked in front of my house a couple of weeks back. DHL driver using her personal vehicle with expired tags and no insurance. Slammed right into the back of my Stang because she got out and did not put her car in gear and no handbrake engaged starting from the top of a hill. I checked my dash cams and there was nothing. Well, except for me going ape shirt crazy after coming out to see it. I would really like to know what your dash cam set up is? Front/rear, etc. are yours able to see sideways for the door dings, etc. I'm all traumatized lol, and getting my new GT delivered in a few days and want to make sure I'm covered as far as having evidence if something happens.

I am a big Viofo fan. Good value, great parking mode options, and very reliable. It sucks when your cam did not catch a critical recording when that is the whole purpose of having it.

Here are my previous posts on Viofo dash cams:

I currently only have a front camera, as I didn't want to have to wire a lot of stuff. I also originally only got it because idiots in big cars like to test their luck when pulling past me in parking lots, and it works really well for that (mostly because I stop immediately and it would be obvious if there was damage done). Its a mini fiofo:

I do have parking mode setup and try to park with my rear against something.

Yep. When I was much younger, circa 1986, driving a ā€˜79 Mini, I was parked at a little plaza, about to leave. Some fat guy pulls in beside me in some American land yacht and proceeds to open his door, ā€œBANGā€, into the Mini, then ā€œBANGā€, again. Gets out and walks into my mirror, and off he goes. I reached over to the glove box and pulled out the screwdriver I carried for on the fly SU adjustments and stuck it in the side of his car and backed out of the spot. Mid driver’s door to the front fender. Didn’t feel bad at all.
