Nice big split on the rounded rear wood piece too. Reminds me of stacking playing cards.

Good to hear the MGW kicks ass.

And on that note, that's enough internet for me today.

I did end up rotating the I beams 45 degrees ( so they formed an X pattern when views from above ) I've seen MANY jackstands with a footprint not much larger than those I beams. Once the beams were rotated it was plenty solid.

It's not so much the footprint that is my concern. My concern is the middle flange of the I beam bending and collapsing flat from a longitudinal load.

Just an engineer looking out for a Mustang brother. Too many people have gotten killed jacking and supporting cars and other equipment.

I always grab/pull/push/shake hard on a vehicle before going under.
But I agree, as pictured, no gots.

Are you serious! The god damned beams span a two car garage to hold up a house

It can hold up a house just fine, no doubt.

Start pushing and pulling the car forward and backwards the way it is in the picture and the flanges will want to bend and collapse.

That I beam will resist lots of bending if used as a support for a roof or similar because the different loading scenario with the large "I"flange resisting bending very well due to lots of material away from the neutral axis of bending.

That I beam has support on the horizontal parts from the weight of the car. And I know how I beams work to support a load. And I do understand exactly what you are talking about. And looking at the size of those beams and the gauge of steel, that little 3800lb car ain't going to bend them in half.

Truth. Hell, I bet they could support a locomotive. The issue is the I beam rolling. Or whats on top of the I beam.

After i put the car up and had a look (and took the pic), that's why i angled them. I did push the car to see if there was any movement and unless i was really pushing, there was virtually no movement. Would i pull out the rear cradle or do any major wrenching using the I beams as supports? Probably not, but the shifter installation doesn't require one to exert excessive force. As regards the I beams receiving sufficient force to challenge their horizontal integrity (parallelogram factor), i wasn't putting "everything i had" into rocking the entire car back and forth until i rocked the car off the supports.

Regardless, i appreciate the comments indicating concern.

Cheers.

How the heck do you get a car in the air with a forklift without a risk of bending the floor pan?
