JLT's CAI installed!!

We have a Comp orange built and sitting in Dearborn now just waiting on delivery.

Oil Separators are a direct crossover so they are ready and the intakes are ready as well.

The problem is no tuning yet, so we'll post up as soon as we know more.

Any reason for not sealing the airbox to the intake tube? Wouldn't that draw in hot underhood air? Also does the part of the hood that sits over the airbox have a mat or is it smooth metal?

So no minor modification is necessary? Just a direct crossover? If so that's fantastic news! Can't wait to see the color matched tubing. Should look killer in Magnetic and Guard.

The tube is so large there isn't enough room for any material between the hood and tube. Plus underhood temps are no where near what you think when your moving. Tons of kits have less or no shield a all.
The goal is to block as much heat at low speed as possible, but allow good airflow at higher speed.

Forgive the stupid question. When a tune is done with the CAI, is it normally keeping the same amount of safety net as a stock tune and just compensating for the additional flow or is it generally trying to get closer to the limit?

I'm guessing the latter, and it seems like it will be hard to quantify the benefits of a CAI given that it's being tuned as well. If the stock CAI is as good as DK says, a tune may get the same gains as a new CAI/tune.

It will be interesting to see what a tune on top of the stock CAI will get compared to an aftermarket CAI.

I'm not sure how someone "knows" the stock airbox is good, but they said that about the 11-14 too and we pick up 30+ RWHP on that one.

It's easy to test the power from a CAI, we do it every time we test our product.

Dyno the car stock 1-2 runs
Tune the car with the stock box 1-2 runs
Add JLT and JLT tune, KEEPING TIMING AND A/F the same as stock box runs and the difference is the power from the CAI only.

Typically the tune nets 10-15 and the CAI 12-15 or about 50/50.

No tune only will net 25-30, but add the CAI and it does every time

Now even more interested to see if there are any real gains from a CAI on this car. My guess is the "modified intake system" on the FRPP Drag video on the N/A 5.0 is a CAI but didn't say as much especially since it doesn't look like FR is doing a CAI for the 550

Are you guys gonna provide a "water sock" for the filter for rain water coming through the hood vent? 13-14s had this issue and nobody thought about it until people starting sucking water into intakes. Looks like this vent is right above the intake like those. I get that the vents reversed and will be hard to get water in it while moving, but if my car is parked outside while at work and it rains, it's gonna suck when I start my car and hydrolock it

Never heard of a single 13-14 hydrolocking from the vent.
We completely cut out hood liner out and drive in the rain without issues, but people wanted it, so we made it. (hood vent plug)

We didn't have a ton of time on this 2015, so I can't say exactly where the water runs to under the hood, but rest assured we will address it before the internet screams "the sky is falling" LOL :lol:
