So I'm out at the Daytona Speedway having fun on the track with my good friend Jim @16Kobra obra
I go over the car as usual. Verify all the major systems are track worthy. The tires were serviceable with plenty of life left on them.
I'm well into the first session and I felt an unusual vibration around the roval turn 3 and 4. The wind was somewhat strong running perpendicular to turn 4. I figured it was just the wind creating mechanical turbulence somewhat similar to that of a ridgeline near an airport during approach.
I closed the windows and around the same turns, the vibration seemed to go away. Fine, I said to myself, continue. Back to the gas pedal.
So fast forward to the paddock where I always do a cursory check on the car between sessions. Jim is heckling me with comments like what are you doing??..
Here is what I found. Keep in mind that this was the right rear tire. The right rear tire is the most important tire on the car at Daytona. It bears the most proportionate weight and load while on the roval portion of the course.
Now, some good news..... they removed the old hazardous rumble strips in the bus stop. They were replaced with more traditional strips that do not cause tire damage. It was nice to see.
I want to thank Jim for his help. He loaned me a wheel with a tire so that I could get my last run in.
