Is this normal?

I just checked the website of the dealer I ordered from and they put the car for sale under the status "dealer ordered". I understand their need to cover their bases if I should back out of the deal, but I did put $500 down for a deposit. I don't want to jump to any conclusions, so I figured I'd ask you guys and see if it's normal. Thanks.

Was yours ordered as stock or retail? If stock, it may just be a mistake thinking it is normal inventory.

Mine was posted on the website as well but was a stock order. What my brain is telling me is that any car order as 'stock' is auto-posted even though the dealer knows that it is a special order.

I will tell you this, which is what I learned from two dealers. If I were you, I would call the dealer immediately, and have them confirm that in spite of the posting, your car has definitely been reserved only for you and set aside somewhere.

There have been instances where a newly arrived stock car was sold to a walk-up before the ordering customer took delivery.

Just picture how many salespersons are floating around some of the bigger dealerships. Only your salesman truly knows what's going on with your stock/retail game.

Other way around, I think. "Stock" means for them to put on the lot for sale. "Retail" means a custom order for you only. Either way, if you put a deposit down it shouldn't be on the website, IMO.

Same thing is happening to me. I ordered a 2016 CO GT Premium, dealer told me it was retail, was switched to stock. Delivered on wed, and was on their website later that day with a sign that said, schedule a test drive today! I almost shit myself, that is why I am going to pick her up in a little bit. I wish I could just bypass the dealer all together. addle:

That's my nightmare. I think I'm just going to make sure I pick it up within hours of delivery. I personally dislike the way automotive sales is done. X-Plan at least gets rid of some of the hassle.

Yes, I agree with you. My point was that IF for any reason his car came in as inventory stock, then it a) could be posted on their site (by whomever does that), and b) it could inadvertently be sold to a walk-up.

Some folks here have intentionally ordered their car as inventory stock as a tactic to speed up its arrival. But there is a slight risk, which is the subject of this thread.
