Pump octane rating in the US is R+M/2. If the Shell Nitro gas octane rating is 93 on the pump listing and the RON is 99 then the MON is 87. RON and MON are simply two different test methods for anti-knock. IIRC RON and MON usually differ between 8-12.I've yet to see any proof that Shell shouldn't be used. My car has seen almost exclusively Shell Nitro gas. Multiple articles on Shell's Nitro gas have referenced the RON (anti-knock) rating as one of the best out there. Most RON ratings for gas stations were around 95. Shell's Nitro gas had a rating of 99. If you convert 99 over to an Octane rating, it's a hair above 93.
