I've yet to see any proof that Shell shouldn't be used. My car has seen almost exclusively Shell Nitro gas. Multiple articles on Shell's Nitro gas have referenced the RON (anti-knock) rating as one of the best out there. Most RON ratings for gas stations were around 95. Shell's Nitro gas had a rating of 99. If you convert 99 over to an Octane rating, it's a hair above 93.
Pump octane rating in the US is R+M/2. If the Shell Nitro gas octane rating is 93 on the pump listing and the RON is 99 then the MON is 87. RON and MON are simply two different test methods for anti-knock. IIRC RON and MON usually differ between 8-12.

You just added to proving my point. I said their Nitro gas is 93. You said it's also 93.

Not sure why people are saying it's bad gas. An outlier is possible with all the Shell stations, but they generally have good gas.

Turns out it was just my ears over-listening to things and my being paraniod (I'm an engineering student :Headbonk:). The noise I was hearing was completely normal and more than likely just my fuel injectors or fuel pump ticking away. I took my tuner for a drive yesterday and we both confirmed that everything is alright and all is well. I'd also bought and properly gapped and installed new OEM motorcraft plugs at .028 instead of going for one of my used sets. I wasn't experiencing knock or ping at all.

Sorry for the scares everyone! Everything is well! :D
This is actually why I run without the plastic engine cover on my car, I want to be able to hear the engine, even if it's clicking away in the engine bay. I am now used to its noise, and I still here a "ping" every once in a while.

I am an engineer too, and its hard to turn off sometimes....

Same. I took my engine cover off my ST when I owned it, and took this one off after the first few oil changes. I just love to hear everything going on with the car and it's mechanics. Even if it's constant clicking and not as mechanical sounding as older engines, it makes no difference to me.
