I checked on the 6g site and didn't found anything about this " potential" issue . Are Mustangs subjects to this failure? Or this is just false info to ask us to spend for nothing?

I checked out your link. Dorman makes great part revisions that benefit either existing problems or to prevent such problems from occurring. Their products are also of very high quality.

I don't recall threads about the heater hose TEE being an issue - HOWEVER, 2 things to think about:

- The original S550 water pumps had plastic impellers, which failed prematurely due to submersion in an environment that has constant cold/hot cycles. Replacement pumps now have metal impellers.

- Any plastic part such as that TEE under the hood and being part of the coolant system is susceptible to future failure. The failure occurs due to the constant changes in thermal temps of the outer lying climate environment, the fact that cold/hot liquid flows through it and it's susceptible to extreme under hood temps. Eventually years into its usable service life, the plastic will fatigue and either crack or just break.

If it were me, I'd buy the Dorman part now and get ahead of the game. Last thing you would want is that plastic TEE fitting failing on a road trip or while out and about on a major highway.

...are you suggesting the OP getting the Dorman pump because he has a 2018 and a plastic impeller?...would factory 2023 pumps have metal impellers or still plastic?
Thank you.

no no...

I'm suggesting the OP get the Dorman revised TEE heater connector.

I was making it a point that the early S550's did have plastic (composite) impeller water pumps and have since been replaced at assembly with pumps with metal impellers. The point being - plastic is not a good substitute in such environments where the part is constantly going through major heat/cold cycles for extended periods of time (years); the composite or plastic part will eventually degrade and fail.. If he (or others reading) has a 2018+, the water pump should have the metal impeller.

so for a 2016... If I read well this is a good call as replacement isn't ? Also does anyone know how to do it and if possible to change without removing all the coolant? and if possible to do without doing a mess in the garage!?

Yes, definitely an upgraded part from Dorman and yes best to replace for sure (especially if you have a 2016 which is now 7 model years aged...).

I'm suggesting the OP get the Dorman revised Y heater connector.

I understand now, I see where I went wrong … thanks for clarifying.

@Jackismydog
This video link shows how to remove the S550 radiator - but it seems any reference to that heater hose TEE connector references back to a similar video like the one below.

I would say at the bare minimum you will just need to drain the coolant using the radiator drain valve. Drain it into a clean catch pan.

Once the fluid has been drained down, you should be able to swap out that heater TEE connector rather easily. Then refill system and follow any other notes/directions in the video pertaining to refilling.
