What is this and why is it leaking!?

did my end of season oil change today and was heart broken to see a leak! i have been noticing my coolant level drops a tad after awhile. Nothing crazy but few onces probably. It appears to be a cooler of some type. Located in front of car in the center under front part of motor. Looks like the gasket is leaking. I noticed dried marks as well as a pink droplet that was fresh.

A cooler with two connectors that plug into it? Looks like dirty water to me.

That's the electronic steering box/motor/gear.

It does look like dirty water, but it is literally coming from right where the gasket is damaged.

I'm not sure how hot that gearbox can get but it may look like it does because it's burnt residue.

In any case, the gasket is still damaged and I would bring it to the dealer to get replaced while you're still in warranty. But that's just me. :shrug:

Pink is usually ATF. Was the fluid oily or did it feel more like coolant?

The "box" is part of the electric power steering from what I can see on the service manual CD. The coolant in our cars is "pink". It is possible that coolant is coming from above the "box" and simply appears to be coming from the gasket. I would clean the area and carefully check for tell tale stains, etc. further up. . . . Or if the car is still under warranty let Ford figure it out.
