i hope not
I would love an Ecoboost IF it was the 2.7L V6. I think that would truly be the turbo beast this car needs.

Hi Guys,

Now, before you all start thinking I am fool, let me say I am not comparing these two engines.

I just need some opinion and thought this was the best place for it.

I have owned the 2005 Mustang v6 for 6 years and its gone now. I have tried the new i4 and liked it more compared to my v6. I have ordered one since they don't have race red(manual transmission+premium package) in stock anywhere in California.

I was wondering if I should cancel this order and step up to the GT.

Would it be too much power to use in the city on a daily basis?

I will be getting married next year. Is this a car that I can safely share with my girl? (an auto transmission may have eased me bit here, but i would stick to the manual)

suggestions please....

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section.
I think the GT will be a more visceral and engaging ride, especially in manual trim. Definitely not too much power. On the flip side, the EcoBoost is nothing to shake a stick at either. Honestly, you can't go wrong either way you go. But I would personally go for the GT.
I live in San Antonio. 7th larges city in the US. Horrible traffic eavry day on 35. And am getting stationed in DC hear in a few months which will be worse. Have a GT manual would not change it for the world.loverall the power and torque helps a lot in traffic gets up a moving really easy. Don't make a mistake and get the i4 and wish you went big. I do think the ecoboost has a bunch of potential but it's a mustang. It needs that V8
Wolf ... I drive 35 daily and did Ft. Meade to Walter Reed for a year and a half. Man, that wasn't fun! DC traffic is crazy. 30 miles one way took me between 2 and 3 hrs in the afternoons. Hopefully you get to live close to where you work.

I was on the fence as you are. I do do a great deal of driving in the mountains in my 2010 Mazda V6. It handles great and I fly around the corners, But when I need some service that was going to take a few days they gave me a 4 cylinder version of the same car. It was a hoot to drive on the same roads. The lower weight on the front end made a huge difference. I took delivery today on an Ecoboost Premium PP and this thing is a beast on the hill. I have tons of power for daily driving with it's power band on the hill. It's fills the bill for me...And besides, I can only go so fast on LA freeways. You'll enjoy either one. Just weigh your driving style day to day.

If you do a lot of heavy city commuting, a manual GT would probably get to be a pain in the ass after a while. The Ecoboost is probably better suited to heavy urban driving. If you want my honest opinion, neither are probably the best for heavy urban driving, at least in manual form.
I would have to disagree. I deal with traffic everyday with my daily driver, which is my 2015 manual GT, no problems. And I live in downtown Los Angeles, one of the most traffic-congested cities in the United States.

If anything, it makes traffic a little bit more entertaining to put up with.

I'm guessing with a full exhaust (headers too) and an intake manifold, the GT will be at about 440-450? That might be a little ambitious, but it's possible. Once you crack open the heads and do cam work (even though im not sure they do all that much for the ti-vct system) and ported heads you might get closer to 475. That's very impressive whp, and I'd guess is right where the EB will start to reach it's safe limits after a turbo swap/cooling upgrades/exhaust system makeover too.
Sounds about right, I suspect.

And whats so wrong with an EcoBoost? Apparently everyone forgets about the SVO from 1984-86.
But it's 2015 and there's a 5.0 available

I drive 2 hours a day the past 10+ years, 100 mile round trip, and have been driving MTs since 2008 exclusively. There are spots in that commute where there is traffic. I have never thought to myself in any situation even while in traffic "I wish I had an automatic".

Originally from Germany, I grow up with MT. Never looked at AT's until 2002. Got an Ford Mondeo/Taurus with AT fully loaded and liked it right away. Moved to Canada and got AT cars and VAN's. Bought my Mustang Convertible with MT and - yep - no problem at all. Not a lot people live in Alberta. :D

The question was I4 vs GT? Girlfriend should drive it too? If you don't plan to go racing, a I4 will do. I did order a I4 AT because I had an accident and "should" not drive MT anymore. If your girlfriend drives the car more often - AT with paddle shifter to choose.
If you don't need the PP get the 5.0 AT. You like to race - get a base 5.0 with PP and MT.

Now we are back again - I4 /5.0?

I drove both...settled on the Eco-boost because it had enough power for me and was equipped just like I wanted...and the fuel mileage makes me smile when I'm at the pump

Get what you like the best. There is no wrong answer here. The only people that are going to bash you are GT owners who feel a 4 doesn't belong in a Mustang.

This is sorta like the horse carriage people bashing the first car engine in a carriage.

I went through the same thing as you when I was trying to decide between the GT and the ecoboost. I would recommend test driving them both before deciding. Obivously the eco won't be as fast as the GT or sound anywhere near as good, but it is plenty quick and has more than enough power to roast the tires or swing the back end out around a turn if you're not careful. I ended up going with the ecoboost and dont regret it at all. It's about as fast as the pre-cotyote GT's, so that should give you an idea of how quick they are. However, if you can comfortably afford the GT (I use the 1/3rd salary rule) and don't mind spending a little extra, I would definitely say buy the GT. But if the money is even a question, you can't go wrong choosing the eco, then throw a tune on it and you'll be close to the base GT's anyways.

no, people are not settling for an EB. the EB is a great option for the OPs situation. having been around car guys for as long as i have, i know he will not be accepted in the self-righteous car guy group who have to take a dump on anything that is "less" than their cars, but, honestly, you don't want to hang around with those idiots anyway.

I had the 05 V6, and i love every moment of it. having the appreciation for the mustang history, both the airplane and the car, and living where i do where traffic does not exist like it does elsewhere, i had to have the 5.0. :)

my wife is afraid of it. LOL!! (BONUS!!!! i don't have to share!! :) )
