One thing I've never really cared about too much in my life is the infotainment or sound system. I like some of the bells and whistles but it's never been a make or break thing for me.

But I did want to change out my base model head unit with the 3 inch screen for somthing a bit more modern.

Knowing that I don't care too much and not wanting to spend a lot. I decided to try one of the cheap Amazon units....worst case... it totally sucks or doesn't work and I return it.

the last time I swapped out a stereo was when CD changers were a thing. So basically I had zero experience going into this.

This thing is Awesome! Was straight forward plug and play. All my controls, steering wheel ect worked just fine. The only confusion was the harness. They send a harness that's pre-ready to hook up to any S550 irregardless of trim level. So you end up with some connections you don't use. It's pretty awesome but when they don't mention it to somebody who has no idea what they're doing you get that oh crap...what did I miss feeling

On the software side things are very customisable. Basically operates like an unlocked Tablet.

Fits like a glove. None of it feels cheap.

$450 total... Usually wouldn't shill for some random Amazon brand....but shit, I'm way impressed.

Did it come with the toggle switches too? Reason I ask is the base models didn’t come with those and I see them in the pictures.

Screen looks awesome, I’m like you, haven’t changed out stereo head units since CD players were the rage (so like, 20 years ago now). Used to do it all the time with friends, though.

Haha oh yeah. Always had to remember to take the face plates with you or you’d come back to a smashed window and missing head unit

Truth be told I quit even taking it off after the first week...
Haha I just put it in the sleeve it came with and threw it in the glove box. Which ultimately was pointless looking back.

Oh hells yes! 😂 Everybody just put them in the console after about a week of lugging around the face plate lol
You are wrong, my GF (now wife) managed to hide hers in the washing machine - we have front loaders with glass doors over here and we could see it bobbing around … :giggle:

Amazingly it still worked afterwards, which is strange as it was OE fit on a Ford (Puma), and being Ford, things typically don’t need an excuse to break …

Anyway, you guys are too modern - I remember when the full stereo was pullout and we would all wonder around college with them. Perhaps this is was started the man bag trend … :cwl:

I upgraded my base radio recently too. Swapped it over to a sync 3 setup with USB force install sync 3.4 which was never released for earlier years. Was about 600-650 total for all OEM parts lots of them being brand new. 250$ was for a wire harness which you can make yourself for like 50$ so really it's 400 for an OEM sync 3 swap. Bezel and all
