Torque at the engine isn't especially important. Torque at the wheels is all that matters for how quickly a car will accelerate. HP is the measure of how much torque you can get at the wheels through gearing.
I have a car I built that only weighs 2500 lbs with me in it and it has 400hp and 500 lb-ft at the rear wheels with a nice strong punched and stroked small block. No traction control or any electronic baby-aids, manually shifted TKO600 and it sure is a lot of fun!!
No idea what this has to do with the the techno-speak being posted, but I do LOVE torque!
