I'm thinking of going up in the mountains at some point this season to go snowboarding. My V6 has got all weather tires, I've not actually driven in bad conditions before. You think I'd need chains? I don't want to spring for winter tires considering just how little (once or twice) I'll use them in L.A.

Anyone drive around on snowy icy roads just stock?

No, I drove my 13 GT on factory Ps in 6+ inches of snow with no issues. Don't drive like an idiot and you will be fine. It's a car, just because it's a Mustang doesn't make it bad in snow. RWD is actually better than FWD in snow. Trust me, I lived in Updtate NY for 6 years.

Drove in a few Cm of snow a few weeks ago on . the stock 17" tires. Driving up to the Alps this weekend with some upgraded UHP all seasons. Don't do stupid shit and it's perfectly fine
Since it's your first time, just take it slow and carefully.

I stay in wisconsin and couple of days ago we had snow fall abt 3-4 inches and I tried to take my car for first snow drive and it just got stuck just few feet away way from my garage(Conditions: Fresh powder snow). After long struggle for 30-45 mins with track control ON/ OFF/ ADV track off ( P.S. I was very gentle with my throttle inputs) FINALLY I succeed with traction off setting and toggling between R and D to get back into my garage.

I have 18 " All season tires on my stang ? Not sure if any one faced similar issue ?

Front wheel drive cars suck. They are cheaper to build and they told the women they are better for traction. When the tires are spinning you can't steer turn the car. I'll take a rear wheel drive car any day over front drive. Mustangs have positraction and you need aggressive winter tires. And you can turn the car with the steering wheel and the throttle. All season tires ain't worth shit.
Studded winter tires is the way to go.

Agreed! Factory fitted tires just dont handle well.

I had the factory summer tires on for a few days when it went into the 20s, and I could feel that I had very little grip. Changing gears would cause the car to lurch slightly as the tires fought for traction. All seasons might be okay, as long as you follow the usual rules for winter driving: slow down, leave 3-4 times the usual room between the car in front of you, and avoid hard acceleration/braking/steering inputs.

Buy a set of cheap wheels, winter tires and add some weight to the ass end if you plan to make this a regular thing, you won't regret it. I did this to my 04' and I was easily trouncing around in 6in deep snow with ease.

All seasons mean that work in all seasons but don't "work well" in any 1 season, they're a compromise tire.

I did a line lock when got stuck in snow. Stuff seemed pretty legit though. (Pun intended).

Performs great in the snow and icy slush with Blizzak WS80s just driving like a normal person. No extra weight in the trunk (though I'm sure that wouldn't hurt).

It's better going forward than our FWD Escape. Much better traction and steering. But I surprisingly got stuck in the garage because I couldn't back up the hill to the road. Only a slight upgrade, but after the snow got hard for a few days (it's gravel driveway, no shoveling) it was slick enough that the traction control took over, killed all the power, and I was left halfway up the hill with no ability to go backwards. Had to just go downhill into the garage. Standard 18" Pirelli all seaons.
