My car is a base GT and I am installing a Whipple soon.

I am going to swap the coolant over to BND HP Gold Coolant. I know the system is 13.6 quarts, but will most of that drain out?

How much will I need for the actual coolant swap?

Are you going to have a flush done since you are switching coolants?

As said I would do a coolant flush (with a machine) if your changing coolants. Just draining the radiator is going to leave plenty of the OEM fluid in the system and it will just mix together.

I'd say more than half is going to be in the engine, water pump, evaporator, oil cooler, etc even after you drain the radiator.

When I did my Whipple install with the big HE, I bought two gallons of concentrate and two gallons of distilled water and I had plenty. This covered the HE fill and topping off the rest of the coolant system.

Is there a block drain on the 5.0? I’ve messed with purging old antifreeze out of other cars and it took me 12 gallons of water one time. This was drain, fill with water, run, drain, fill with water, drain, run, ... repeat. I think I ended up with 4 or 5 run cycles. After all that the stuff coming out was nearly completely diluted. I did this with distilled water. Next time around I was glad to find a block drain, made it so much quicker. This was all because I was switching to another antifreeze type that wasn’t compatible with what was in the tank.

I drained my radiator yesterday and the amount that drained out was about 6 quarts.

The heads hood a lot too. I recently installed an MMR Head Cooling Mod and when I knocked the freeze plugs out, each head dumped a whole lot out. It seemed as if it didn’t want to stop. What a huge mess. I’ll need to refill mine soon and was wondering which route I was going to take to get all the old out.
