4.88s seem pretty reasonable actually. It makes the 3.55s seem ridiculous!

So, it looks like maybe 54-55@70mph (although I know it didnt get quite there) and the 3.73 15-17 @ 7000 according to the previous chart is 60.6....So, nope. It doesn't "seem" that aggressive.

The only way to make 4.09 gears play nice with '19 and up cars (rev matching downshifts, gear position sensor in the MT82) is to purchase this from Ford Performance:

https://performanceparts.ford.com/part/M-9603-M8B

This allows you to change the Ford Performance tune to 4.09 gears.

The issues with 4.09 gears (really anything lower than 3.73 gears - the lowest option from the factory) seem to be limited to '19 and up cars when it comes to the MT82 equipped cars. '19 and up got rev-matching and the transmission also got a gear position sensor.

You CAN get your factory tune modified to play nice with the 4.09 gears. You don't even have to change anything in the the tune but the settings involving 4.09 gears. Any good tuner familiar with the newer S550 should be able to do this pretty easily.

Downside - you'll have to purchase a device to upload the tune to your car, and either pay for a tune or if you have local tuner, they will adjust JUST the settings needed for gear ratio usually much cheaper than a full tune.

Or you can buy the HP Tuners software / hardware + the credits you need to modify your tune (you need 4 credits for the 18-21 Mustang)

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/hpt-m02-000-04

A tick under $500 and you could make the changes you need to run 4.09 gears. The benefit to doing this way - if in the future you decide to add modifications or get tuned (E85 etc) you only have to purchase the tune file from the tuner you choose - you can use the HPTuners device to upload the tune to your car.

Will the stock tune work with 4.09 gears on 2018 cars which don't have rev match but came with 3.55 gears from factory ?

There are few people here with '18s who've done the swap with no issue from my understanding.

Your tune has to be adjusted. It's a max gear ratio setting inside the tune.

2019 PP1 3.73 gears MT82:

7000RPM in 4th gear is 154mph with a 275/40/19 tire

With 4.09 gears:

140 mph
just the reply i needed, thanks! too bad the car is a bag of shit and always broken, if not i would've been done this.

I remembered to check on my last drive. 80mph comes up at 2500rpm with 4.09s, 6spd and 325/30/19s.

Im sure someone has done the math on this so it’s probably not news but I figured I would share anyway.

The weather is looking crappy enough here today that I took the hatchback and left the Mustang at home so I can't just take a look this time...So you're going to make me dust off my long forgotten algebra "skills?" :D

2500 x X =80

2500 Revs/80 MPH = 31.25 revs per MPH

70 MPH x 31.25 = 2187 RPM at 70 MPH
75 MPH x 31.25 = 2,343.75 RPM at 75 MPH

Let's call it 2200ish RPM at 70 and 2300ish at 75 since we're working off of an eyeball estimate and varying tire sizes between our various cars.

The point is that the revs are noticeably higher than the stock ratios...as you would expect. The car still feels relaxed at highway speeds and it only knocked off 1-2 MPG at the worst.

I wanna go twin-turbo. I got an mt84 d4 and would 55mm hellion twin-turbo (tuned) give me instant power similar to a Whipple on low rpm.

I had an MT82 car, upgraded to a Magnum XL - it was the 3.66 first gear - I upgraded the rear to 4.09 and it wasn't enough gear....but with an MT82 4.09 would probably be a useless first gear blast of fun.
