I'm looking to buy a set of hood struts. I'd like to get the plain black Ford Performance. Yes, they're the cheapest I've seen but I like that they actually say Ford on them. Plus the black goes well with my stock engine setup under the hood.

However, on my dad's 5th gen GT he has a set with pretty long mounting brackets. He said they provide better support and spread out the weight/force. Any truth to that?

Or are the Ford Performance and their tiny mounting brackets more than adequate with no real disadvantage structurally speaking?

Thanks

Yes, there is truth to that and it's even more important with the S550 and the thin flimsy hood. Steeda makes the best that I've seen with larger mounts. Steeda S550 Mustang Hood Strut Kit (15-17 All)

RedLine has been specializing in hood struts for years now, if that helps. They're the ones I'm going with.

I would take a pass on the FP struts.
I had a set and the lower mounts would constantly twist in the mounting hole. No matter how tight I made them.
Red line has a much better mounting system.

+1 for redline, they have the least intrusive mounting system, and it stays put!

I have had the FP on my '16 almost since day 1 - she just turned 1yr old. No issues with them at all either mounting or hood flex. Just my experience. I too liked that they said Ford on them - was why I got them, looked more stock.

What drew me to them was actually the Ford logo since, other than a couple places under the hood, it's not anywhere else on the car.

But after reading the other replies I might set my sights on a pair of RedLines.

Thanks

Stay away from the Ford Performance ones. First off they are not a Ford part only the name is put on there. Second I bought them because of the name and the hardware was not thought out and I had to manufacture fixes. I eventually bought the upper brackets from Redline to make the hood stop bending. I should have bought the Redlines don't make the same mistake I did.

Thanks for all the recommendations for our QuickLIFT system!

Spend a little more and buy a properly engineered system from a company that stands behind their products.

1) Warranty: We have a 4 year warranty for our PLUS system and a 5 year warranty on our ELITE system. This includes all the components in our system including the gas springs. Other companies only offer a 1 year warranty.

2) Fit and finish: All of our brackets are Zinc plated and then Black powder coated. The bolts in our system are Stainless steel and then coated black, this offers the ultimate in corrosion protection. The aluminum inserts we use in our fender bracket assemblies are anodized red, even though you will never see them once installed, we want them to be the best.

3) Extras included :
a. Detailed full color instruction manual with every system.
b. Plastic drill guide for exact location. (Other companies give a piece of paper you have to cut out yourself)

c. ¾” Step bit to make a perfect hole in the battery cover (Not included with other companies kits).

4) Longer hood brackets: Our hood brackets offer more support that help prevent hood flex for both stock and aftermarket hoods.

There really is no comparison!

This. Their customer service is the best I've experienced of any company in this industry. Their parts are great, and I'd buy from them again in a heartbeat.
