I went through the same debate this summer, and almost all of the points made here were considered (except for modding, I don't do that anymore).

I ended up going with the DH. Now after a few months, I have no regrets. It's sublime on the track, the screens don't bother me any more (I actually almost like them) and if the front end bothers you, don't look at it! LOL, you get used to it...

I was looking at lower mile used cars, and the price difference just wasn't that much, so I went with the newer, warrantied car with more current tech and hopefully better resale (I don't tend to keep cars very long).

Don't buy something simply based on how much you're getting for your trade. Take the 240 to a BMW dealer and see what they'll give you for it. They'll likely pay the most.

depending on your state don t forget the tax is reduced by the taxable trade in value if you trade other where you buy the mustang. (and they know that).

I'd like to take advantage of the tax difference between the two vehicles,to a tune of about $3500. The mach1 and the dark horse are off the table because they have recaro seats, which I am not a fan otherwise I would have purchased one of them. Now I'm interested in a 22 mach1 with 12000 miles non-premium. For 49k.

Are you going to keep this for a long term or a short while? Things like color and production number effect how much it will be worth later in the cars life. Personality the s550 has grown a place in my cold dark heart. Its no where near my first mustang. It takes time for me to like new generations. Im glad that you have taken a liking to both generations and hope which ever you take will not give you any regrets.

Why worry about the mileage? If you are buying it to garage it then you are fine.

If you are buying it to drive and have fun put 100K on it.

My '22 has 15K on it and I wish it had a lot more. That's on me.
This car literally just BEGS you to drive it. Then when you do, you feel guilty. Rinse, repeat…..It’s an endless cycle.

Never feel guilty about driving these cars. That’s what they’re made for.

I know some here won't understand it but recaro's are a deal breaker for me too.
I am literally the same way. When I went shopping for GT500 I had a chance to sit in a Track car with the Recaro's and immediately got out and was like, "It's a NO" I just do not like the way they hug me and the fact I have to lift my hips over the bolsters every time I get in instead of just sliding in.

Ouch! I overlooked the location (NJ) and didn't consider that your state's tax rate is more than twice mine.

Yes, they do, which is why I suggested to Tommy that he get a quote from a BMW dealer. It may be close to the same net price, which then gives him more flexibility in where he buys the Mach 1 (or whatever). My point was not to limit yourself to one dealer just because their trade-in is above average.

I am considering these two because they gave me the best price for my 25 m240i. Most dealerships low balled me big time . Anyone want to swap a bmw for a mustang? Lol
.
Sell it private party. You’re losing a lot to trade an expensive car to the stealership.

While you will pay full sales tax on the new car, the private party buyer for your existing car doesnt pay any sales tax so you should be able to ask that much more get all that back on the sales price and still come in thousands ahead.

I would go with the Mach 1. I dislike the 650 refresh that much. To me, the best of the 650 is the DH. I’m not a fan of the interior nor of the exterior design. When it comes to the new Mustang I would wait to see if they fix the ugliness or buy something else.

That's not true in every state.
In Georgia the buyer must pay sales tax to the state when you get your license plate, new or used. Only they don't call it "sales tax", they call it a "Title Ad Valorm Tax" (TAVT) but it amounts to the same thing. It's a one time payment to ensure that the state gets its pound of flesh.
Oh, and it's a percentage (currently 7%) of fair market value, not the sales price.
