Help!

Currently installing the CB005 BMR Cradle lockout kit and having difficulty threading the driver's side front cradle bolt back in. I have been able to finger tighten all of the other bolts except this one. It will only go a few turns before stopping. It is almost like the threads are stripped. I blew some compressed air in the bolt hole hoping to remove any trash but that hasn't helped.

Is this an alignment issue? I have tried moving the cradle around some with a large screw driver but that doesn't seem to help much. Is it possible the threads are stripped?!?!

I have the Steeda version of the BMR craddle lockout and I remember having to pry somethings into alignment. You might try a pry bar to get things to line up. Without the cradle lockout in place, have you tried to run the bolt into the problem hole?

Try threading it in by hand without the bracket, that should tell you if the threads are stripped or not.

If you did not force through the bolt in any way, shape, or form except hand tight, I doubt it is stripped. But I'd wanna know too as well.

You'll need a pry bar to move the cradle to center the last hole up. Make sure the other three are loose but not too loose. You want enough play to move things around. If you need an extra set of hands but you're running solo, try a ratcheting tie down. Works just dandy.

This is why I think it's stripped as I started the bolt by hand w/o the bracket and it doesn't go more than 4-5 threads in. I've been able to start all of the other cradle bolts by hand and thread them in quite a ways.

What do I do if the hole on the body is stripped? The bolt itself looks fine.

If the threads are stripped, you'll need to re-thread it. If you have a Harbor Freight nearby, they have the kits readily available over there.

If you shine a flashlight in that hole is the cradle lined up? Meaning that the bolt isn't hitting the cradle as you turn the bolt?

Also you can put some copper antiseize on be bolt, might help.

Everything is actually lined up very well. I had to do very little realigning of the cradle. I went ahead and tightened the bolt as best I could. I didn't dare torque it to the 129 ft-lbs. But everything feels nice and tight. If I detect any movement while driving in the next couple of days I will try to rethread the bolt hole.

If you were able to get it all the way in you are good to go!

On any suspension install I always recommend to retorque everything after a few hundred miles.

Did you jack up via the pumpkin? Im doing mine tonight and this is whatni have heard many do. Plus throw jack stands on the rear most pinch welds.

remove everything and retap the threads before you regret it ,my friend used an impact on the 13mm bolts and snapped two of them, total bitch to extract, also you always should hand tighten those 13mm, and apply anti seize to the threads just for added safety

Yep, jacked up the pumpkin and put jackstands under the frame rails.

I didn't use an impact for that exact reason. I hand tightened everything before putting the torque wrench on it. Just had one cradle bolt that was stubborn. I eventually got it in, but I am going to check everything in a couple hundred miles.

Worked out perfect that way. And my cradle was aligned already from the factory.

It is very common for this to happen. Ironically, it seems as if it is usually the driver side bolts. I have a theory as to why, but I will keep it to myself - as I have seen some of my theories spread like wildfire. lol

The best thing to do, when this happens, is to chase the threads. I typically put some chassis/equipment grease on the tap (just a habit) and run it up through the threads, then I clean the bit off and run it up again dry....then hit the threads with brake cleaner. Installing brand new bolts in that mounting point is a great idea too.

If you need any further assistance do not hesitate to shoot me a call.

Good luck!

I had the same issue. Driver's side front. Everything looked lined up well. Bolt would go in 5-6 turns and stop like it hit something solid. Threads on bolt looked fine. Blew out hole, used axle grease and chased the threads. Bolt went but had some resistance. Loosened it back up but no metal shavings. Ran it back in and torqued it. Very odd. Curious as to your theory Kelly. Something bent or misaligned? Maybe slightly off? Hope there are no issues with the integrity of this bolt.
