Yo,

As the title says I'm looking to pull the trigger and buy some wheels and tires for my 15 mustang gt.

I'm tossing and turning between 19s and 20s. I've been going from thread to thread based on mixed answers.
So here's where I'm at,

I love the look of 19s, definitely 19x10's

But I love the look of 20s more. But I'm hearing 20s will slow down my vehicle quite a bit. I'm not tracking the vehicle, but I do visit my friends strip where we run 0 to 60 times and some times 1/4 miles here and there so the thought of my 0 to 60 suffering is a bit scary. I'm hearing light weight 20s wont hurt me so I've been looking at verde v99 axis and ar924s in 19s and 20s.

Also I'm looking to go square setup and carid is offering 20Ă—10.5? With the offset of +45 Saying guarenteed fits but I'm not seeing anyone run this size.

https://www.carid.com/verde-wheels/v99-axis-satin-black-83158078.html

If I have to go 20x9 all around would 38 or 30 offset be best.

If 19s for the verdes they have 19x9.5 with +38 offset.

The ar924s come in 20x9

Thoughts?

Thanks guys

There are plenty of light weight 20's around also. I have to ask, if you like the 19s that much, why not get that size? Why are you only looking at square set-ups? If you are only considering 1/4 mile runs, then the opinions will be totally different. What about every day driving and putting the power down. Have you done any other modifications like cradle lockout or stop the hop kits? If you haven't, you might want to consider that first for your 1/4 mile times.

I love the look of 20s more than I do 19s. Square setup for me is better for me, the simple fact of tire rotation as far as daily driving I'm no more than 1 mile from work but I do a lot of driving outside of the which I'd say I'm about 50/50 city and highway I do have bmr minimal drop handling springs, tower brace, and irs support braces

I think my biggest concern is will 20s slow me down or the 10.5's up front.

If not I know I can always go 19s.

Thanks m8

With equal weight to a comparable 19", a 20" will accelerate and brake slower because of the change to inertia. The ride will also be worse for the same diameter tire.

Ouch, that's what I was afraid of. Som better of going 19s. Then if I'm concerned about performance.

^^ Yes, or even down to 18s for the drag race/1/4 mile.. Perfect world and funds, I would have a set for drag racing with appropriate tires and a different set for the street with appropriate tires.

That's what I got on my car now, the base gt with 18 inch wheels and stock p zeros on there. Definitely couldn't wait to get these off as they look so small. I'm hoping 19s will help. With a 19 inch tire 275/40s or 285/35s all the way around?

Those stock P Zeros are not helping at all for the 1/4 mile. I agree the 19s with a good tire will help quiet a bit.

Living in MI and wanting to drive on both street and strip, I would suggest the following in no particular order: Michelin Pilot Sport 4S, Continental Extremes, or Mickey Thompson Street Comps. I have the Michelin Pilot Super Sports on my Z06 and they hook up great BUT they are dangerous in cold weather. I bought the Mickey Thompson for the Mustang and this will be my first time trying them. I am in Georgia currently so not too extreme cold.

Yeah, I'm only hoping I can find the right tire now.

It will also come down to what sizes the wheels you like come in. The wheels I’m interested in only come in 20’s. Also think of this, the new GT500 comes in 20’s. Plenty of your high end exotics ride on 20’s also.

I agree but it sounds like the OP's priority is for those times he is going down his friend's quarter-mile strip. Hopefully he has some performance mods in mind if that is indeed his priority

I'd go 275 on 9.5s and 285 on 10s. Might want to look into the SVE SP2 from LMR. Comes in 19x10 and weighs 24 pounds.

Yeah I plan on parking her next winter as I just bought a SUV for the winter.

I see a lot of vehicles are coming with 20s now. I'm curious about how bad my 0 to 60 would suffer going from stock 18s and p zeros to aftermarket 20s and a better tire.

Ah okay, 30s or 40s? And I love the save sp2s, just a little outta my price range on what I'm looking to spend right now.

Right now I currently have 3.15s as well as I'm an auto. I've set up a install for 3.55. Idk if this will help get the tires rolling. My 18s are 235/50s as well.
