HELP - Rear Shock Damage from Shipping Blocks

I can’t believe this - I took my GT350R into the shop for a nail in the rear right tire. I happened to be there when the tech took the wheel and tire off, and his eyes got huge - the rear shipping blocks were still there!!

It looks to me like the rear shocks are damaged (as I have over 1,100 miles on the car). Does anyone have pictures of what the rear shocks should look like extended? And, does anyone else have a similar experience?

I remember reading about others having issues a while back and I tried to look up the old threads, but I couldn’t find them.

I know they were left in a lot of the RS's and I never actually heard about damage from it.

Your car should ride significantly better now though.

It might be worth contacting the dealer you bought it from and request a free extended warranty for the concern.

Dude, over 1,100 miles?
You don’t mention error codes so mechanically, your shocks are most likely ok. Aesthetically, it might be a different situation.

What really gets me is that he's been on the forum for 3 years. I don't have an R and I still know about the shipping blocks.

It's the responsibility of the dealership who did the pdi to remove the spacers. It's a warranty claim, period, dot. No worries man

I have known about the shipping blocks since the GT350s came out (as evidenced by my original statement, regarding others who had reported the blocks being left in), but was told they were removed on my car when I picked it up. I never checked their work, and the rears are pretty tough to see with the car on the ground. What they did remove were the "blocks" for the front.

But, who knows. I've only been on the forum for 3 years and slightly longer than you.

Shelby, I doubt your shocks are damaged. What you’re now noticing is the travel the shocks actually have (most likely). When I removed mine, there was added space which could resemble “extension” but the shocks can only go so far.

But your car on jack stands and let the wheels hang suspended. That’s the travel it has and the shocks can’t extend beyond that.

Thanks for all the responses. It looks like the shocks are OK after all. The dealership is calling a field engineer to confirm.

Yes, if you receive an R, visually check for the blocks and don't take your dealers word for it. You've heard it here first, folks!

Ford dealer left mine in. Took me about 3 miles to figure something was horribly wrong.

Same here. Read the Forum quite a while before I received my ‘17 R. Told the Dealer to pull the blocks before shipping the car to me. They emailed me pic of blocks. Got the car, drove it 2 blocks... damn, they left rears in. Looked at emailed pic again.. blocks were the fronts only. You would have to be catatonic not to feel complete lack or rear suspension with blocks in.

Good news is, no code.. no damage-
